Camping in France Advice

We are looking to take our first camping trip to France this year.

Looking at Vendee area.

We have 2 small kids ( 9 & 6) and want something to on a camp to keep them occupied like pools but not big on "family" entertainment.

We have found a site ( Camping and Caravaning) that looks to have some nice places in Vendee - which looks drivable in a day.

Wondered what people on here could recommend.

I am also after a trailer that we can mount push bikes on so any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

Oh, and needs to be close to a beach

Does the LR Assist cover me when in France or do I need to take out additional cover from some other organisation ?

LR Assist covers you whilst in Europe - but it is the AA that actually operates the French side, and they were excellent when we had a problem BUT beware the French Dealers can be very slow - in fact very very slow Very Happy

We stopped off at a site called Chateau Chanteloup

http://en.chateau-de-chanteloup.com

a few years ago as an overnight stopped and loved it and the atmosphere, have been going there ever since. Lots to do locally, site is family friendly and runs entertainment at the Chateau during higher season but you do not have to go there if you do not want. It is easily accessible in a day even with a tin tent in tow and generally has very good weather.

Hi,
I found this place good, http://www.chadotel.com/en/camping/vendee/...-beaulieu, great small town.

Get a toll tag, well worth the extra if you are driving from Calais.

Instead of a trailer what about a roof box and towbar mounted bike carrier, I use max raxx allows you to tow and have a bike on the towbar at the same time!

Pin Parasol was a building site last summer apparently, not sure if they've finished it yet.

How about http://www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/chateau_de_la_foret?

We did http://www.leclarys.com/en/ for our first foray to the land of garlic, good cycling to be had and not too far from the beach.

Camping Logis Du Brueil at Royan has new pool complex this summer! Maybe a bit far from Calais. Of course, you could drive to Portsmouth and spend your first night of the holiday on the ferry sailing to St-Malo to reach Royan.

Much superior to travelling to & from Dover & being stressed by Censored on all the roads around Calais.

I like driving and hate boats with a vengeance - did Calais to Nice ( stop over in Dijon) last year and thought the drive was easy compared to UK roads Thumbs Up

We went down the west coast of France last summer with our two kids (4 and 5 at the time). We've never stayed on "family" camp sites before so were feeling a bit apprehensive, however it all turned out great. First place we stayed at was in the Vendee "Camping le Chaponnet", booked through the C&CC. Nice pool and not too big. Also has tennis and football courts plus an adventure playground for younger kids. Site tracks are quiet enough for the kids to cycle around. It has an on-site bar and restaurant, but there's a Lidl just around the corner for shopping. We stopped here for 5 days before moving on south. It may well suit your needs but have a shop around as there are loads to choose from in that area.

We have a trailer with bike racks. Have a look a Anssems trailers. Really well made and loads of options.
