Just be aware that if towing any sort of trailer (even a Tesco trolley) you will be limited to 90kph (55mph) on motorways, so you will be jockeying with the trucks. The cut off is 3 tonnes GTW, which the Disco easily exceeds.

Edit: Some tips
Use a Halifax Clarity credit card to avoid sterling exchange fees.
For route planning and timing/tolls use viamichelin.co.uk and tick the caravan option.
For a toll tag use APRR.FR and link it to the Halifax Clarity Card.

Shoot - hadn't thought of the 55mph limit

May have to rethink and look for roof rack for camping stuff and bike rack or would the bike rack still put me over the limit ( 2 adult and 2 kids). ?

its 3 ton GTW, so wouldnt have thought a roof rack, some camping gear and bikes would have put you over that. Also, as you arent towing its pretty unlikely you would stand out whilst batting along, the rest of us with Disco and 'van trying (not) to stick to 56mph is another matter Whistle

We have never driven at 55mph ? no-one else seemed to either.

We go to La Garangeoire, its awesome and this will be a 7th year. It is big but not to big and loads for kids to do. We like it, kids are happy and the pitches are super. Weather can be hit and miss though.

Just to clarify on speed limits - the 90kph restriction only applies if you are towing.
And the GTW cutoff is in fact 3.5 tonnes, but the Disco is well over that.

Have a look at le castel sites, the same as the one Russel recommended, their sites are normally of a very good standard.

The site I suggested has big pitches around the outside of each field which allows the kids a place to play with no issues

A couple of comments

Most of the sites in the Vendee near to the beaches will be sandy pitches - dont know if that affects you pitching your tent. They also tend to be small pitches (80 to 100mtr sq). It gives most of us with T/A tintents an issue, but if you just move back inland a few miles (quite often less than 5 miles), you get better sites, with grass and larger pitches. We've used quite a few up and down the Vendee over the years, and one of the nicest is a Dutch site near Coex, La Ferme du Latois (https://www.rcn.nl/en/camping/france/vendee/rcn-la-ferme-du-latois/camping). Less than 10 mins to beaches & St Gilles, and big supermakets, and you can ride your bike into Coex for local shops.

Less than 5 hrs from Caen (with tintent on the back) and almost all motorway with no tolls aprt from last 30 miles

We've just booked this site for the summer hols, looks really nice.

We will be there for 12 nights in early August. Thumbs Up
