Opinions please on headlight bulbs
So my left hand headlight ( dipped beam ) bulb has blown so been looking at just a bulb upgrade as ones in the vehicle now ( I presume standard halogens) are absolutely shocking compared to d3 I had with adaptive xenons fitted , now I know the ones on my d4 won't be anything like those but after something brighter and not as yellow looking .
I can't make head nor tail of what's available , what will work best etc not willing to spend stupid money on upgrading lights but willing to pay for better overall lighting
Opinions /pics would be great thanks [/list]D3 Java black HSE now gone

I use osram nightbreakers and have no complaints about my headlights, other than the frequency of bulb replacement. Ive bought a set of osram extended life bulbs to be fitted in the dipped beam once the next one blows to see how they compare in both light output and service life.
Save your money and stick with decent (e.g. Osram) but standard bulbs - the legal upgrade ones emit no more light by law, but just have a shorter life - any improvement is only a very tiny improvement in focus. If you are really concerned about the colour, PIAA Xtreme Whites are the best, but expensive, and a warmer white is actually advantageous for vision so I strongly recommend standard bulbs.
If you want a real upgrade, you need xenons, or better, aux lamps. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

The extra bright ones just dont last in a D4 for some reason, whereas in a D3 they gave a reasonable life.

If you do try HIDs they only work in the dipped headlights, totally useless in main beam. This is because they don't like being switched on and off frequently.
Other problem is you'll probably find your headlight beam is wrong and poorly defined as the reflector design is totally wrong for HID bulbs.
I know this because I tried a set in my D2 a few years ago.
i'm running some LED bulbs in my high-beam (I have xenon dipped) and they are working very well but you do need to get the type that have an LED element that closely matches a filament type. They are available. Don't even bother with the sort that use a lot of small LED elements as your reflector is totally wrong to deal with this type of light.Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem
