engine oil priming procedure

Hello,
can anybody tell me if there is a procedure to prime the engine and/or oil pump with oil.
i've just refitted a replacement engine and fitted a new oil pump etc. I'm concerned that there will be no oil pressure for a fair few seconds on initial start up

I would leave the injectors unplugged and turn it over on the starter for a few seconds first if the engine has been rebuilt it should have been lubricated when put together
in older oil pumps I used to put vasoline in it to help it draw the oil on first use

if you've not replaced the oil pump, then do as all ready mentioned or pull the fuel pump fuse turn it over for a while, then refit then let it fire up.

Stuartp, I've swapped the the engine out from a jag, so had all the sump etc off, changed the oil pump etc while it was all out. It's probably not had any oil in it for 3 weeks and there's nothing in the oil gallories. I think I'll pull the injector loom off or pull the fuse lol you said

I think it's a little pointless from my experience.

I had the oil pickup pipe off and on therefore

While the injectors were removed (so no compression) I gave it a good crank over (pump fuse removed too) but could not get the oil light to go out.

I inspected the oil filter. No presence of oil near it. So poured oil over the filter.

With everything back together I started it. (took a while to get the thing to go)
Then took at least 10 seconds to get the oil light to go out!

Glad I had pre oil the cams, lifters, turbo, down oil sensor hole.

So now my thoughts are that any priming of this engine is a waste of time and only adds additional wear!

And the time taken cranking it over to get it going will act as priming (if indeed priming does anything on these)

that's why you put the vasoline in the pump it creates a vacume to suck up the oil

Unplugging the injector electronics and cranking can cause disasterus damage to the engine Shocked
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sorry to interrupt, but is any of this relevant when changing the oil and filter?

Spike Kelly RM no non at all, just make sure you locate the filter spigot correctly in the port it fits then screw the housing down by hand for several threads before tightening with socket etc.
