What is the connector on side of gearbox

Hello all, Just changed the fuel filter on my discovery 3. While under the car I noticed a small square black block with a connector just above the linkage on the side of the auto gearbox. The bracket that attaches it to the side of the gearbox is rusted away and it is just dangling free. Anyone know what it's for. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems or warning lights I just need to know if I have to sort it before it does.
Thanks

It called a suppressor (capacitor) and been mentioned on the forum before. Nothing to worry about but would see if you can secure it with a tie wrap.
