Haha not to worry - as long as I don't have to turn it in for scrap/break it, the wounds will heal.
I did a lot of research on this forum and found that my 07 HSE was right in the firing line for this issue. My trouble is, that this is a reactive response and I should of spent some more time doing my research like your friend. I have found that the 07 does tend to have this happen around the 105-115K on this forum. If in doubt have it done and save the heartache and have that peace of mind. I don't think LR want to admit to this issue, I have just sent an email to JLR CS so will be keen to hear back from them. I will update if anything tangible comes out but as you mentioned and others here also, LR are blind to it.

I sympathise with you, my D3 broke crankshaft week before Christmas, no warning just
accelerated away from a set of lights and all hell broke loose.
Have purchased a second hand engine (with 6 months warranty) for £2400 delivered and
my local garage are charging me £1500 for a body off engine swap, which they have done before
as they have an ex LR technician.
I've asked them to fit all new belts, oil pump and water pump on it whilst
the body is off.

r44heli, that sounds like a sensible amount to get back on the road. Fingers crossed the independents are just as sensible when they come back at me with the estimates. Did you buy your engine from anywhere in particular? Had 2 calls tonight from engine fitters.co.uk. Priced as £3300 cash for supply, fitment & recovery or £4000 if paid by card. Sounds a bit suspect to me but the extra £700 is the VAT there abouts. So it could be a case of we'll do this off the books. Anyway has anyone had dealings with these people? trying to find some reviews but I'm juggling work, finding an engine and avoiding bathing the kid this evening.

When paying for a rebuilt/recon engine, you want some kind of comeback, just in case...
£700 is a lot of money, but "if" it goes wrong again, it will be worth ever penny My D3 Build Thread

Couldn't agree with you more, buy cheap, buy twice is a rule i try to live by. I just didn't know the reputation of the company that put this quote of work together. Besides it's also a case of how quickly the work can be done which is the other driving force.

Engine failure and replacement |
|
56 plate Discovery under 60k miles, has engine failure.
I'm looking at a replacement engine unit. Can anyone recommend an engine rebuilding firm who will collect my LR and do the work, please?
Thanks

OK, so some bad news on the Disco. By all accounts LR no longer supply reconditioned engines but I could buy a new unit for £6500, throw in new gaskets and other ancillaries for £650 then a labour charge of around £1700. Total circa £9000 inc VAT, which is probably the near the value of the vehicle. Any ball park figures for what the value of this would be worth in its current condition? At the end of the day it is what someone is willing to pay for it, but just exploring options.

kane, sorry mate but all these are bulls . find a good mechanic and overhaul your engine. Had the same situation one year back (oil pump broke and disaster came). if I've manage to do it in this place then in UK i am really confident that you could find someone to do it.
my cost was nothing 1,500 Euro to buy spares (oil pump, valves, followers, gaskets, piston rings, bearings, etc) last two you don't have too i did it cause i was there already.
you cant find a mechanic to do the overhaul, send your upper part to guys like, http://www.turnerengineering.co.uk and ask them to repair or exchange with a repaired one. don't give up that easily, disco is a bloody good car and Landys are meant to live for ever.
for some reason LR is giving up the old style of mod your car etc and wants to play safe, again bull an engine is an engine.
when i did mine everybody said that the engine cant be fixed, i am telling you it can. ask any reasonable mechanic and will say the same.

Sorry don't mean to open the wounds further...
But I had my oil pump changed to the later model when the belts were done on my 08 for piece of mind and I have a friend who is taking the dealers advice that its not an issue and doesn't need doing on his 07.
So I was just curious...I suspect it is the same issue

Thanks Kane,
Given the likely value I think that's a none starter.
I was hoping for feedback from any site user who has had experience, in the uk, of having a reconditioned engine & who could therefore comment on their first hand experiences of suppliers.
Anyone with engine reconditioner experience to share?

I suggest you talk to Disco_Mikey who sources second-hand engines from EuroJag & fits them. He has lots of experience in doing this, and many satisfied customers.
Beware most of the engine re-conditioners have appalling reputations.
