Checked my ECU info on my iid today and had a few updates available. As follows: Engine TDV6 update available. Instrument pack, transfer case and navigation update available. And it also said suspension 2 assemblies found.
Firstly can I update these using my tool and if so how. Also will it be useful to do these updates and what improvements will I see?
What does it mean by suspension 2 assemblies found?
Thanks.

If I was you, I would wait until the guys at GAP are back to work after the New Year in case you run into problems and need assistance.
Just edited and added the two screen shots I took from the app. If I do update then yes I will update when support is available in case of an issue.
Robbie isn't it always to have all things up to date? How would I know if there is a reason it needs updating? Is it possible it does but as I am not advanced in these areas I wouldn't know if it needed updating or maybe even if there was an issue I haven't realismsed yet? Your probably right and as yet say if it works don't touch it my questions are just to clarify/understand in full detail.
Thanks.Discovery 3 HSE 2007

If there was something wrong with the car, and someone said "an update fixes that", that would be a reason to update.

The trouble is, there is a gremlin in all of us that says the update will solve problems we don't even know existed. I'm sure at least half of us will update just because there is an update available!

I would be of the mind that a update was written to improve something or make it more reliable? Such as the compressor software that (if I understand correctly) runs it more efficiently so hopefully helping itlast a bit longer....

Been wondering if an update would fix an annoying issue I have with my gearbox. In low box it won't use 6th gear, at all. Never has from new. Academic in an OCD kind of way as never really need low 6th, luckily my fear of breaking something is stronger than my low 6th OCD itch.

Obviously you don't have an IPhone , I wish there was an option on them things not to update, every time mine updates it takes me a week to get it back working as I like it, last time it updated overnight and I lost all my contacts, time before all my music.
There is always an element of risk when updating firmware as any computer tech will tell you It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Update it and you might not get any gears at all : Happy New Year It can when others can't,

And HNY to you too.
Hence why I don't touch it. I like the 13 gears I can get, want to keep it that way. If it ain't too broke, don't break it.

I have a similar issue. My TERRAIN RESPONSE shows "update available".
But how can I flash / update this with my IID BT?
Did not find any button which would start the update?Achim

There is no button to start the update as the tool just displays what you have against what is available for that configuration. I say 'just' but the work that goes on under the hood to match the correct file to the correct vehicle configuration is no easy task. Indeed, I believe GAP are the first diagnostic company to even attempt such an algorithm - this is not something that JLR's own tools will do. If you need to change a specific file then GAP can provide it via their fast-track service to your IID.
Calling these files 'updates' is fraught with danger as they are not updates like you may be used to with home computers. In the main they are changes to reflect differences in configuration, ECUs, supplier revisions, regional requirements etc. It is rare for these 'updates' to provide any additional benefit to the end user, but are powerful enough to turn the vehicle into a paperweight. Even a desirable update may brick a poorly ECU or one attached via corroded wiring. Overcoming such issues with replacement ECUs or loom repairs are worth it to fix a vehicle; doing the same after flashing for the sake of it would be painful and needlessly expensive even if the end user has such skills.
There are of course some updates that we have found to be reasonably safe and add potentially worthwhile features. These are usually tested by those of us who have a reasonable hope of recovering from a sickeningly unresponsive vehicle and trust me when I say that even my blood runs cold when it all goes 'unexpected'.
Do not underestimate the power and capability of the IID Tool. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
