Made a stupid mistake with the epb |
|
I've made an error and the epb cable slipped off the shoe and has wound itself right in.
Can I use the IID to unwind it? I can't see it in the options
The manual release has not worked. I'm hoping to avoid opening up the epb box

Disco_mikey has done a guide on how to release it It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

To close this off, the handbrake is now released.
I've the electronic diff so took the advice from other posts and went in via the spare wheel well.
So spare wheel off - easy
2 bolts holding the plastic air thingy - rusted solid. Ground out the captive nut. Easy. 3 tubes removed from plastic thing. Fiddly but ok. Plastic thing out.
4 bolts holding on the plate. OMG, hours of work. Soaking in penetrating fluid for a day, rounded off nuts. Huge torque on the mole grips finally moved them, 1/4 turn at a time. Exhausted.
Various clips off, the side bolt out and the mounting plate comes out - easy
Screws out the EPB box - easy
Pry lid off. - took a while but ok
Little tap on the rod and released. My IID refused to wind it back so wound it back by hand but only took a couple of minutes.
Now the handbrake cable was long enough to put the shoes back on, so did that and tested it works ok and it does. Now the car is not complaining about wanting the handbrake pulled up the IID will now latch and release.
Now just some rust clean up, re tapping and painting to do. I think I'll also use stainless steel bolts and copper grease everywhere D3 V8 HSE
