So Swmbo's 2014 D4 HSE Lux has been in and out of the dealer a few times with "Restricted Performance" over the past year which still hasn't been fully resolved. It will be going back shortly as it has happened a couple of times again over the past week or so but I'm keen to find out if this could also be affecting the fuel consumption.
The car has the annoying stop start function, lower tax and reputedly better fuel economy but we have yet to see it! Average mpg is around 25 and tonight on a run of 100 miles travelling mostly on duel carriage way or motorway with the computer saying average speed of 61mph the fuel consumption was 26.6mpg - is this normal? In the summer, on a run back from Cornwall, I averaged 27.9 in my 5 Ltr Supercharged XKR
Now we never bought the car for it frugal use of fossil fuel but our old D3 used to nudge 30mpg on an run and on paper the D4 should be much better

So I do a lot of motorway miles and I sit at 65 and average around 35 MPG however this is only the computers reading and is never accurate I do use the same fuel consistently and use diesex too ever 2000 miles as it says on the filler to add an addative after this distance of travel (i choose to use this as it has served me well in previous cars) also try resetting the average mpg before a good run! You do this by pressing in and holding the button on the end of the indicator stall! First it will reset trip A then it will reset ur average MPG and should give you a better reading as if ur journeys are constantly urban it will keep this registered on the computer

I usually notice better fuel milage in warmer weather than in cold weather.

This is precisely what I did As I said I am not expecting miracles but surely the average mpg on a sensible run should be better and probably start with a 3. Is it possible that the poor fuel economy is linked with the restricted performance issue which is likely now to result in a new turbo as all other options have been exhausted

That is rather odd if they change the turbo and this doesn't rectify the issue push for a replacement and lr should honour it your right on a steady run you should be looking around the 30s for mpg
Hope you get things sortedGod created heavy armour on 06 sept 1916, on the 7th the devil stood to attention!

30s reported on the computer maybe; my best ever in the 2016 is 29.7 over a tankful real brim to brim figures, with an average of 25.7 (real) over 8500 miles. Don't do much motorway driving though, a bit of towing and definately don't drive like Miss Daisy.
Mind you my computer is now frighteningly accurate once fettled with the IID tool.
Your numbers do sound low, as the real numbers are likely to be 3-4mpg less than what you see on the computer. Maybe it is related to your restricted performance messages.

Without being critical can I ask why you sit at 65 when the national speed limit is 70? Someone apparently once calculated the most economic/efficient speed for a car would be 55 so why not go at 55?.

If I sit at around 60, the mpg average for the journey shows around 34.
However I don't go that slowly on the motorway so it reads less

I filled the car up yesterday and did a bit of running around, then this morning we set off up to Harrogate, when we got here,I brimmed it back up to full to see exactly, when on a long run what could be achieved. Now the average readout on the cars computer indicated it was doing 26.6 no way can that be right I thought. I was right, after calculating that I put 4.22 gals back to fill it up then dividing by 150 miles it equates to nearly 36 mpg. Quite happy with that17 Golf GT TDI Tornado Red

My average over a 1 year period using Road trip lite is 29.6mpg. The car computer shows 33.4mpg as the average. Driving is about 70% windey country roads/B roads, 10% town and 20% motorway (at 75-80).

Canburne I always sit at that speed on the motorway as it's the best speed for me with the amount of traffic I encounter at the times of my journey I'm not rich enough to have the adaptive cruise so rely on the poor mans and 65 is the best speed to weave and 55 would be taking the on the motorway I save the speed for the crotch rocket!!! Then I'm a blur God created heavy armour on 06 sept 1916, on the 7th the devil stood to attention!

I bought a new D4 in March this year and have noticed a reasonable improvement in mpg over my previous D4 (2011 model year). I even recorded an amazing average 37.5 mpg on the car’s computer over 500 miles while on holiday on the coast of Scotland where there are excellent A roads with no roundabouts or traffic lights etc - heaven! The actual mpg was just over 35 when manually calculated.
Overall I am averaging just over 30 mpg and this includes a reasonable proportion of urban motoring. However, I am very gentle on the accelerator and brake pedals in a deliberate attempt to maximise mpg.

our average is 26 mpg
have only ever seen 31 mpg once - on a long trip to France where we obeyed the speed limits.
