Towing Electrics

When I picked up the kit the Parts Manager told me I needed to reprogram the ECU as nothing would work as "the ECU doesn't know the electrics have been fitted".

Naturally I ignored that advice, fitted them anyway and now they seem to work fine.

Does anyone know if the ECU reprogram is abolutely necessary? I'm only using a towbar mounted bike carrier, not a caravan etc

Also - if anyone has any suggestions on how to secure the cables behind the harmonic dampers that would be great - managed to jam them behind the sill which seems to work but would feel more comfortable knowing all was secure.

Cheers

If it works to your satisfaction then thats OK. Thumbs Up

The ECU program only stops it going into offroad height when you have a "caravan" attached anyway.

Can't help with the cable routing im afraid, mine was factory fit.

I routed cables inside the internal metal bumper on mine and they are completely protected.

Ecu upgrade is not necc.

it stops going into full extended height and will also turn off rear park sensors(if fitted) automatically when elec are plugged in..

you can of course see our friend TFC who will more than happily do the ecu bit for you when he drags himself back from Morroco. Whistle

My tow electrics weren't activated and you can still select different heights, but the reversing sensors and rear fog lights are automatically disabled. I don't see why you can't change suspension height with the tow bar fitted.

Have to say the D3 is an amazing tow car, I only fitted my electrics last Friday and towed the boat home on Sunday for the first time and you couldn't even tell you were towing anything.

Actually although I have only had the D3 about a month, it is easily as comfortable as a BMW 5 Series and the engine is so quiet.

I can't think of anything I don't like on the car, which is impressive (apart from fuel consumption maybe)
