Throwing myself at the collective wisdom of the group
My D3 feels like the rear brakes are binding. It's regular but not always. Does not appear to happen on short journeys or at high speed. Happens most when the auto changes gear at low speed and/or when turning.
I can't feel any abnormal temperatures on the disk or the drum.
I'm resigned to taking it apart but can anyone explain the logic in the symptoms above? D3 V8 HSE

Do you release your parking brake with the button or do you drive away to release?
I've noticed something - not confirmed yet -
With the EPB applied, if I press the button to release it, it seems to roll free, but if I release it by driving off in drive, I can hear some mild squealing from the rear.
As I say - it's unconfirmed yet, but noticed a couple of times that it seems that this is the cause, I just need to take the time to have a look at it all

I always use the button.
I can see that on short journeys the heat does not build up and cause the juddering. No squealing
I can see that if I'm going fast enough the momentum is too much to cause binding
But no heat??? And turning corners??? D3 V8 HSE

Not sure about taking the corners, but low speed juddering could be a warped disk, doesn't occur at higher speeds due to the greater forces

Are you sure it is brakes binding, is it a judder you feel or squealing noise. I am just wondering if it is not the brakes but the DSC cutting in, this would show up especially when cornering and usually in one direction.

I've only once been able to induce the symptoms. With the car on full lock I pulled forward 3 feet then reverse same. Pretty sure it was the drivers side rear juddering. A warped disk sounds feasible. Defo no squeal. But I would have expected heat and it's not there. D3 V8 HSE

I have a IID and tried the calibration, twice. Not convinced. Also been under the car and the centre bearing looks good to me. I've ordered discs pads and shoes for the back. Will see if that works. D3 V8 HSE

Just re-read the thread and it looks like I'm dismissive. I'm not, am fearfull it is the transfer box. I've also considered it being the D.SC. if it was, would there be indication on the dashboard. I'd have expected some dashboard warning light? D3 V8 HSE

Well that's all the rear brakes changed. Both handbrake and foot brake. No change. Still have a binding sensation regularly but not all the time. More internet surfing opens the possibility its a diff or transfer box. I don't understand the transfer box. Why does it have clutches? And can anyone describe the symptoms of slipping clutches? As i understand it, the transfer box clutches allow the centre diff to slip for normal driving. When on rough terrain and/or the terrain control settings are altered, eg mud and ruts, the clutches start to bite together to lock up the diff. When calibration is required (or a fault) i think these clutches remain engaged to a degree, causing a grabbing sensation through the vehicle on slow tight turns.
Low range may exacerbate the sensation.

Interesting. Feels like there ought to be a test I can do then to see if the clutches are grabbing by lifting one wheel and trying to spin it. If it won't spin then the clutches are engaged. I've recalibrated a few times now. Looking forward are they a replaceable item or is it new transfer box? D3 V8 HSE

I had issues with non-conclusive brake binding late 2015 early 2016.
Basically nothing got hot, but the MPG was slightly down and on a slight gradient wouldn't roll.
I changed, calipers, pads etc but no difference.
Then changed the master cylinder and servo and all went away and was back to rude health. Mark.
