Old Look LR3 Grille
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows if the old look 'thick' style grille would be an easy fit for a 2014 LR4? I really liked the look on my old LR3 with the thick grille and the black wheel arches.
Cheers,
C

Ok thanks. I guess no one would make the part that would fit? I liked the LR3 looking more purposeful than the current RR look. Rugged is great when you use the car in the fields.

I'm torn between the original look and the newer style. Honestly something in between is what I'm going for in the end.
Mine is an 06, but I toyed around with this same idea as I'm not completely sold on the new style front end. I currently have a mix of the new and old on my front end, original D3/LR3 bumper with the new style headlights and grille. There is a bit of a gap between the lights/grille and the bumper, but the design has a lot of lines/gaps/spaces already so most people haven't really noticed until I point out the space to them.
Converting an original D3 grille wouldn't be hard at all, you would just need to trim off some of the edges of the grille. I may end up doing this to my original grille down the road when I get time just to have two different options.
Hope these pics help you out. I ran my vehicle like this for a week or so deciding which light output I preferred, the new style was much better in my opinion. This could be due in part to the fact that my original headlight bulbs are probably 10 years old (unless original owner changed them during their ownership). The grille snapped into place enough to hold itself on, but it obviously was a bit mis-aligned due to the excess plastic that you'd need to remove to get them to line up properly with the new style lights.

Awesome idea! New style headlights and D3 grille. How are the new style headlights working was it just plugging them just on?

I still think my D3 looked the best and the "heritage" look could be a great mod. I've got a cracked java grill in the garage might have a play see what it looks like with my black pack. whoo and I've got some d3 plastic arches !MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

The lights were plug and play for me, but the ABL doesn't work and it has a flashing warning light on the dash along those lines. I've heard that can be turned off with the iidtool but I haven't bought one yet.
I've never had the original 10-13MY D4 headlights to confirm this, but I think they were the same shape as the new ones. I did trim back the wings. My right one I misaligned the template (that I got off here, I think from Robbie or someone with a similar user name). The left one was almost perfect.
I have a different direction that I'm trying out, hopefully this weekend. As far as I know it hasn't been done yet, so I'll post up some pics in it's own thread when I've completed the mod.
I don't think I'll ever go back to the original D3 headlights, especially since the wings had to be trimmed. So I'm going to put them up on eBay to fund the cost of my other projects. I will most likely trim up the original D3 grille to swap in and out as I choose with the new lights.
