Tow Hitch/Receiver on the new Discovery

OK, so can some explain this to me? Does the new D5 come with a spot for a quick release hitch like previous years or do you have to order the new electric drop-down thing to have a hitch receiver at all? From the shots it looks like that comes with a ball, so I'm a bit confused. Thanks.

Where are you getting that from? The only option I see here in the U.S. is the electronic one. Maybe that implies that removable is standard?

I did find something in the brochure in the Design section that says there is a different undershield spec'd for towing (page 115):

Stainless Steel Undershield – Rear**
VPLRP0255 – Without Tow Hitch
VPLRP0256 – With Tow Hitch

I did check out the NAS brochure. Don't see an electric swing-out tow thingie option at all (wouldn't be surprised if that device didn't meet US DOT standards and we will never see it available here, like Wade Sensing and a few other gizmos), but there are a tow bar and tow bar receiver listed among the accessories, near the end of the brochure at page 117.

I would expect the US version would have a plug in receiver , similar to D4. ( hopefully not the same system!) That's how I interpret the US catalogue

Ah found it. I think they must have updated things in the last couple days.

The electrical swing down version costs $650 and shows up as part of Build Your vehicle (this is on the US site).

And I found in the U.S. brochure pictures and numbers of the plug in receiver. Page 117:

What I'm not sure about is if one has to order the correct "undershield" to have room for the hitch. Sadly, my local dealer is as much in the dark as we are.

Oddly enough, if you build from the UK site as opposed to where I am in the US, there is a detachable tow option on offer from the Options page. There is no mention of this in the U.S.

check this page for more tow bar options in the UK, there's a lot.

So the electrically deployable towbar cost $650 (£514) in the US, yet it costs £985 in the UK where the car is actually made ???

OK, but the photo of the UK and US versions are exactly the same ? However if its not the electrically deployable one, but a fixed or removable version it still only costs $650 or £514 and that's for a 'towhitch with electrical connector' which is presumably the US version of a 13pin socket. The cheapest towbar for the UK market appears to be £700 and it doesn't say that includes the electrics ? Or am I missing something ?

This is the photo of the electrically deployable towbar from the UK site, which is exactly the same photo that eelpout posted 'towhitch with electrical connector' ?

UK cost of Electrically Deployable towbar - yikes!!!

So the price for having the towbar swing out at the touch of a button is.......£2193 in the UK when checked under the accessories tab! (or is it? the Option pack price has it at £985 but is that only for the actual towbar - it is not clear enough to decipher the true cost).

Lets be honest here, the higher cost of this is about twice the cost of comparable systems from the other premium car companies. Even from those other companies, what made that cost justifiable was already tenuous but LR's pricing is on another level! If it can be had for £985, then people may see that as a bargain against the £2193 cost!

To have the audacity to list additional requirement s to allow the towbar to be electrically deployable (you need to have the towbar module, switch and harness - so the panel with the button is extra....takes the cost to £2295) and this does not include the towing electrics either, according to the blurb! So even more cost to be taken to have this 'ease of use' feature.

Madness........
