Breakdown
Unfortunately my 2010 broke down on me earlier It felt like a belt letting go, all of a sudden it lost drive (Gearbox fault light came on) and power steering went etc, I coasted it to a safe spot and was recovered, it's now at my local specialists awaiting diagnosis.
It had its 6th service in August and I asked at the time if it was worth having the belts done and LR advised against it saying that at 79k and 6 years it didn't need doing until next year so why bother - I sorta wish I'd ignored their advice now!
So, does anyone have any possible good news for me, is there anything else that it could be other than the cambelt, and if it was the belt, is there any possibility that no damage was caused?
It's a 2010 on 82k miles, I was travelling at about 50-60mph when the fault occurred?

It could have been the rear belt, fuel pump ISTR, which doesn't do any damage. Bear in mind I'm officially a non-techie.
Fingers crossed for you.

Does the engine still turn over?
Hoping it's not a snapped crankshaft. Good luck chap.

Where have you taken it too? Are they going to diagnose today?
I haven't heard of any timing belts going. Lots of cranks though unfortunately. Do you have an IID tool?

It's at my local LR specialists, they're going to try and diagnose either today or tomorrow morning. No, I don't have an ID tool.
I've got a horrible feeling that this could work out to be incredibly expensive - like I say I do have a warranty but I know what they're like for trying to wriggle out of paying out

Urm not really, it just all of a sudden lost drive and cut out.
Can't remember the name of the warranty company and I'm not near the paperwork, I had the cam shaft sensor done just after buying the car and they were pretty good tbf, I'm just not convinced that they wouldn't try and get out of paying out fully if it turns out to be horrendously expensive!

I would be concerned that you asked a sensible question and were advised against taking a sensible precaution. Dave

Yeah I asked the same question here and got some answers that now seem ironic! ~ http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic150561.html - Ultimately the choice was mine and perhaps I should have gone with my gut and got it done.

Unfortunately never heard of them so no idea if good or not. Best have a good read of policy and see what's covered, any conditions (like servicing up to date and by who) any limits (or excesses) and what's not. If you've got your ducks lined up then you should be fine.

Re belts being done, if it's the camshaft then not sure belts would have made a difference. You could have just saved yourself that cost.

Actaully WMS arent bad. I had warrenty with them on my last D3, and it covered were and tear. When the HPFP failed I contacted them after having the car recovered to my indie to flag the fact that I had a problem (as I know warrenty folks want to know and OK any work BEFORE its carried out). They were fine, OK'd the investigatory work, and then once we knew it was the HPFP at fault, OK'd the fix. The only thing I would say was that I had to pay the garage and WMS sent me a cheque for the same value.
When you take out the policy you can specify the labour rate you want covered, so it could cover main deler rates or indie rates (for which you pay a lower prmium)
Hope you get it sorted
