Soo, the saga continues, after getting nowhere fast with the car sat at my local independent LR specialist for over 6 weeks, I had the car transported to my local main dealer, who have so far been absolutely fantastic.
I have been dealing direct with LR customer services, they have been pretty awful, basically saying that due to the mileage of the car ( 82k on a 2010 car) they weren't able to offer any help. The service manager at my local dealer got involved and instantly managed to obtain a 20% reduction from LR, he is hopeful that he will be able to improve on that. On Monday they will be contacting my warranty company on my behalf and they're confident that they will at least get a contribution if not the full £5k I'm covered for. So, with a bill of around £13k, 20% off that brings it to £10,400, if they manage to get the warranty company to honour my warranty it will bring the bill down to in the region of £5400 for a brand new engine fitted by LR, which is a darn sight better than the £9k for a recon engine fitted by a independent garage which I was faced with a few weeks ago.
I'm feeling a million times better about the situation and am pleased at the thought of having a brand new dealer fitted engine, obviously £5k is a lot to shell out but I can cope with it knowing I've got a new motor to go forward with, and I've learnt a lot of lessons in the meantime!
Advice to anyone looking at buying a D4 - never buy privately or from a non-franchise trader, ALWAYS buy from LR, with the best LR warranty cover you can get. Advice to anyone faced with the dreaded crankshaft issue - go straight to your local LR dealer and get them to fight your corner, otherwise it can be an uphill battle in every direction you take!
Have LR given you a temp car?

Not as yet, they're going to do their best to get me one, but to be honest after 7 weeks coping with one car in the household I can hang on for a while longer, my main concern is to get my disco back on the road!

I ended up part-exing my car with its seized engine for a newer 2014 HSE at my local dealership, they gave me a great deal, and having learned the hard way the importance of buying from a main dealer with a LR warranty I didn't really want the car back fixed or not.
Now i've got the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, it will be sorted out. If I'd have bought the car from LR I would have had it back fixed within a couple of weeks, but as it was bought from an independent dealer with an independent warranty it was a nightmare trying to get it sorted, D4's are fantastic cars but they're expensive when they go wrong!
Obviously I'm out of pocket, but I can mitigate the loss with the fact that I have a much newer car with much lower mileage with all the benefits that come with buying from LR. The dealership have been fantastic and have helped to soften the blow for me, for which I'm really grateful, I pick up my new car later and I can't bloody wait!

Of course I'm sure you would have much preferred it not to die in the first place, but really happy that you're moving forward and of course getting a 2014 HSE , also great to hear that the whole experience has not put you off Disco's
I'm hoping to see a 2014 HSE this weekend, and it is from a main dealer, with all these 'dead engine' stories I'd be foolish not to get one from a main LR dealer - even if you do end up paying more for it
Best of luck and looking forward to the pics later Iggy/Ieuan

Nope, not put off Disco's, I've spent the last 8 weeks longing to get back in one! I was unlucky with the last one but learned my lesson, so can now move on.
Good luck with your viewing this weekend!
Oh, and for the sake of anyone googling WMS warranty review - AVOID at all costs, they've been appalling!

Well, a good price relative to its current state, around £6k less than they'd have given me if it wasn't for the seized engine, they also gave me a great finance rate etc in order to help me out of the situation, they've been fantastic.

I take your point, but that is still good to know they have been helpful, something I wasn't previously aware of them being Andy

Well, I suppose you 'speak as you find' as they say, they've been very good to me, obviously they've managed to flog a car to me so they didn't act entirely selflessly, but they did their best to get me out of a cr4p situation as painlessly as possible.
The ONLY way to own one of these cars IMO is to buy directly from a LR dealer with one of their warranties, there's no way on earth I'd own another that wasn't covered fully by LR.
