2008 Euro 4 EGR blanking questions

I have a 2008 MY, euro 4 (it has the 82 teeth HPFP cam belt), no DPF. I've balanked my EGR (they where not faulty or causing any trouble) as a premptive measure.

Blanks installed, pipes removed, intake butterfly valve removed, no software update.

I got no warning lights and no errors showed up via IID tool.

Question is: how is this possible? Everybody here reports that you should have software update done on > 2007MY disco's?

Other question is what would happend tot the actual EGR valve long term (2-3-4 years donw the road). Wouldn't it get cloged with tar causing other problems?

Dose anyone opend the blank and the EGR valve and clean crap out?

Cheers,
Dan.

Hi Dan

Have you still had no issues?

I have a 57 Disco 3 TDV6 and I suspect the EGR Valves have gone but want the most cost effective solution as opposed to the fitting of new EGR valves and/or a Remap. I haven't seen much on the newer EURO4 EGR Blanking on here.

I've blanked them ~10.000 km ago (blanks + intake butterfly valve removal) without a software patch.
No errors or lights on the dash.

My EGR valves where fine when I've blanked them, no symptoms. I've blanked them becaused of the gunk that they where sending back into the engine.

I'm also curios what will happend if one of them actually fails (will a error or light on the dash come on). I was planing to remove the plug on one of them to check if any errors will be stored, but I've forgot and just remeberd it Smile.

It can take time for the light to come on, and it may not come on at all, or in the worst case scenario, it can cause limp mode - the only way to be sure is to have the software patch done. Thumbs Up

Mine are blanked and I also have a BAS remap plus EGR delete patch.

If I do a fault scan using the Gap IID BT, I still get the 2 EGR faults listed but the patch,
as far as I'm aware, just stops the EML light coming on so can't see how once blanked
the EGR's could cause any engine shut down.

Get them blanked (minimal cost - under £20 for the blanks if you do yourself) then see if the
EML comes on, if it doesn't, then yippee but mine went through 2 MOT's with the EML light on
but I had it sorted as it annoyed me.

Exactly the same for me with my 2009. Went through 2 MoTs with EML on but I eventually got it sorted by buying an IID and applying the BAS patch. Prior to that it would go through a few restarts before the light would come on and I'd have to reset it again...

Sorry, that was slightly careless wording on my part, as I actually mean limp mode. Can't say exactly why it would be - I presume it's software differences or certain airflow conditions?

For the remaping can it be done with our 'domestic' diagnostic machines? i own this one: 'Lynx Diagnostic Single Vehicle (Home User) DA6430'

Have asked LR here and the answer is NO we don't do such things.

has anyone relevant experience with this diagnostic machine?
