Well it was a long weekend but im nearly there with the discovery!
Had back on, everything plugged back in and and started up after a quick pull start around the field very smoky from all the unburnt diesel that down the DPF while we tried to figure out what was wrong with the engine, so ill have to sort that out still, and unfortunately one of the glow plugs is after blowing out of its threads ill inspect that situation during the week but for now, im a happy camper, glad to have it back running on 6 cylinders! took it for a quick spin down the road and am well impressed with how these D3's handle and how comfortable they are!
another few days sorting out the small problems and she'll be good to go!

i think the exhaust being full of diesel is a great excuse to fit a straight through instead of the DPF and center box

Going to tackle the offending glow plug this evening, im assuming its pulled itself from the threads, so just wondering has anyone else had this happen or are there any ingenious fixes out there?

Your Avatar says TDV6 yet you talk of Timing Chains I thought the TDV6 had Timing Belts? Sorry I am not a mechanic in any form....

well after a bit of messing around with the discovery last night, its officially on the road after 2 years of being sat up with a broken cam chain.
Its 99% of the way there now, two small jobs left to do, the center bearing on the rear prop is worn out so ive one ordered, and the back box on the passenger side needs a small bit of welding.
Just wanted to say cheers for the help from here lads! Looking forward to driving a comfortable and quiet 4x4 for a change!

Oh, so it was a broken chain in the end. I had forgot/missed that.

Yep Pete! snapped chain and a few broken bearings on some of the lifters, so decided not to chance the old head and fitted a 2nd hand good unit, jobs a good one now!

just re-read the entire thread again. What a job! Great to read of your success in getting what appeared to be a hopeless case back on the road again.
Interesting to see that broken cam chain was suggested on page 2!

Cheers! Delighted it all worked out in the end!
Its was all a bit daunting for me as im more used to older mechanical engines, and this was by far the newest and most electronic machine i had worked on so extensively but thankfully it all worked out for a finish
Haha, i know! i spotted that too, someone was on the ball straight away haha!
