Newbie attempting timing belt and oil pump change
Hi guys, I have a discovery 3 2.9 TDV6 05 plate, I’ve just started stripping the car to change the timing belt and the oil pump but read last night that 05 plate disco 3 oil pumps are fine, can anyone advise please?

Some early pumps have failed. While you've got it in bits you may as well have peace of mind and fit the later pump.
My thoughts, for what they are worth. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Excuse the 2.9 bit, it was early 🤣
Belt removed to find this along the edge of it for around 12 inches. Any idea what’s caused it?

What side of the belt is that damage on, engine or casing side? Either a foreign body got in there or a bolt came loose. There should be marks on either the engine or inside the timing belt case which should give you some idea.
Resolve it to your satisfaction before you refit the new belt yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
Check the drivers side cam wheel pulley, it has a damper built in,it could be worn, they have been known to fail.

Hi do I check this mate, it currently has the locking pin in it.
Also now you e mentioned it, I noticed that the cam adjustment bolts on the passenger side seem to have slipped, well it looks that way. You can see where the bolts where originally tightened up. I’ve owned this car 13 years and know the cam belt has never been replaced while I’ve had it🙈 it was only 2 years old when I bought it so should have been touched then. What do you think? Can this cause rough idling with no engine management light on?

It was more than likely when it/if it had the recall for the fuel pump where the rear belt changed from 82 teeth to 85.
It would not run if that far out.
If you look at the drivers side pulley it has a rubber damper these can wear.
Also your top water pump bolt is missing in the picture, did you remove it when removing the cover ?.

I See, the fuel pump must have been done before I bought it. Well spotted regarding the water bolt, yes must have took it out with the other 20 bolts holding the cover on.
