i broke my oil filter cap

Dear fellow disco3 drivers,

I drive a D3 HSE 2,7 TDV6 HSE

After a fight to get the carter protection plate off to get to the carter plug Evil or Very Mad , i tried to get to the oil filter...

wich resulted in breaking the plastic bolt from the filter cap Big Cry

Anyone got an idea how to get the housing out without the plastic bolt?

Thx in advance!

Geert

Looks like a job for a standard filter strap / clamp, which way we're you turning, they're tight, but compress a rubber seal, so shouldn't be immovable , 25Nm if memory serves, it says on the filter housing Thumbs Up

Looking at the picture of the broken cap it looks like you may have overtightened it rather than unscrewed it? New filter cap required after removing the broken one with filter strap/chain. Easy fix just lube rubber seal with oil so new one goes on easy Thumbs Up

It'll be tight getting a filter chain / strap in there. It's fubered now so I'd just grip it with anything going, just don't break it so small shards of plastic go missing.

i was turning to get it loose

it is very tight indeed... a normal filter strap doesn't fit in

and it does break into peaces when i try to grip it with anything else

order a replacement.

drill two holes in the side at the top to put a long screwdriver through to try and turn it.

Otherwise you will just have to break it into pieces until its gone

You will have to sit on the slam panel or airbox to get at it

I think I'd be getting some builders banding and putting a few self tappers through the holes

You could make a couple of 'arms' and use them to turn.
