2016 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 Landmark LE Auto Santorini BlackDiscovery 4

I was surprised at how much shallower the boot aperture is on D5 compared with D4. Launch I attended also had a D4 in showroom so I measured it: From boot floor to top of opening, D5 is 13 (thirteen!) centimetres smaller than D4. I realise that all volume measurements on D5 are larger, but the height of the aperture is key for me. Looking at the two back-to-back, the D4 is clearly more practical in this respect.
Further, I found the 3rd row quite claustrophobic (although nothing wrong with legroom) and believe this is due to lower roof (and subsequent lower position of 3rd row seats, compared with stadium effect of D4) as well as chunky C pillar and tiny rear window.

Which volumes measurements are larger on the D5?

2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: FL2 as a second car

Certainly the length from inside tailgate ( with boot open, I should add!) to rear of central chubby box - that's a couple of cms longer.
LR claims volumes (either middle row up or down) are larger.

I have heard this said, but the volumes are in fact lower for the D5. On outright volume, it's lost 150 litres, although it looks like the loss should be greater.

The volumes on LR figures are only relevant to those of us who carry loose gas or liquids around! Laughing

Ja92mie...if youre interested in it, its a real nice one but as mentioned the egr fault code has come on a couple of times although its running fine now and not showing any faults. New disks/pads all round this time last year and new front tyres 6 months ago. Rears are on legal limit and due a service but that would be done by dealer anyway. Always been really well looked after....plus it'll have a brand new set of 20" alloys when they swap my ones over!

When are you picking your new one up?

I had all sorts of numbers thrown at me yesterday, no two ways about it when you compare the two in the metal the D5 has a lot less practical(usable) loadspace to the D4. The rear tailgate is so deep it makes up for many litres of the quoted space when closed.

Makes me laugh when people claim the D5 is bigger than the D4. Bottom line is the equipment I need to carry fits easily into a D4 and doesn't into a D5 - I actually took my whole kit down to the dealers to check ! Laughing

That was the end of it for me...

Didn't Land Rover clearly state that there would be "no loss of practicality"? Confused

They think the electric app based folding seats and event platform as practicality, we just see it as a waste of time that will go wrong. Thumbs Up

Wendy just came back from launch event, and says for her, the electric seats were great. She really struggles with flattening the D4, I usually end up doing it for her. Some of the handles do take a fair bit of strength to operate.....

Definitely!
On back-to-back inspection the D4 cargo area appears infinitely more practical.
