Could it be a sticking calliper ? Check the wheels and see if one is a lot hotter than the other

The AA guy was pretty noncommittal So arranging a recovery.
Been told the o/s/f bearing very worn and marks on the o/s/r brake disc which show that it got very hot.

That is the symptom of a sticking rear park brake. If the rear disc is discoloured around the hub area, that makes it even more likely.
It needs to be stripped cleaned and adjusted. Although it sound like your shoes may have delaminated and destroyed themselves.

I only had them cleaned and reset on Wednesday - is it an expensive job to get fixed?
