D3 to D4 brake upgrade

Hi Guys,

I think Im needing to replace the calipers on the front, and I definitely need to replace the front and rear discs.

What (reasonably inexpensive) options are there to upgrade the brakes? Ive seen before someone putting D4 brakes on a D3, but Im at work and cant really spend the time sifting through all the posts (a quick search didn't reveal anything immediately).

Ideally I would be looking for drilled/grooved front and rear discs, uprated front calipers and new pads etc.... anything else? would I need spacers/adaptors to fit D4 front calipers?

Also how does one get to the forwardmost front upper wishbone bolts to undo them to replace the bushes? seems like the airspring is in the way?

Thanks

Matt

You mean like this Very Happy

Although not quite as good (braking wise) it's a cheaper option to fit the V8 conversion, advancedfactors have the complete kit front and rear, drilled are unnecessary.
Although the D4 callipers are larger to accommodate larger pads the pistons in the callipers are the same size, if you want bigger callipers and pistons you will have to go the Brembo way which is two steps up the ladder cost wise. I can assure you the D4 callipers do the job as good as anything and have tremendous stopping power without overheating, without them my car would now be awaiting front end repair from an idiot who could not stop at a junction yesterday.

It's a good idea to do the rears, I will be doing mine when they've worn more, I notice the rears in standard form definitely get hotter than the fronts with D4 disks and for the price of the carriers (SXP500014 same no. each side £17.80+vat each) it's a no brainer. Thumbs Up
You do need 19" wheels though to clear the larger calipers.

Same callipers. Thumbs Up New carriers and discs. New pads obviously, but the same size.

It's very simple to do - It's a good idea to give your park brake shoes an overhaul while your there - you'll need to adjust them and bed them in.

You need 18" wheels for the V8 brakes. 19" for D4 brakes or Brembos.

The kits from Steve @ Advanced factors include everything you need except the tools. Thumbs Up

Just a note for reference; not every 19" wheel will fit over Brembo callipers, you need the early 6 spoke D3 hse wheels (late d3 7 spokes don't fit) or RRS 19" wheels Thumbs Up

Do any of you knowledgable folks know if I need to replace the front splash shields on my D3 when upgrading to 3.0 D4 discs and callipers?
