Hitching Up

Currently away in the Tintent, just walked the dogs round the site, saw a guy with a FFRR struggling to hitch up, to get the van level the hitch was eight or nine inches above the towbar, winds the jockey wheel down and it's still not low enough to hitch on the ball, what's he do, he gets a scissor jack out, puts it under the A Frame and is raising it up and so he can drop the Jockey Wheel again, his wife looked at me and shook her head, quietly said to her to put it in off road height, I know she said, that's what I've told him. The trouble with jacking it up under the tow hitch, is that the suspension will lower to compensate for the increase in height, putting the whole weight of the back end of the RR onto the jack! Accident waiting to happen. Shocked

Once saw a guy lowering the jockey wheel on his caravan and could not get it down into the towbar. He shrugged when I pointed it out his front legs on the caravan were still down.

No, he was jacking the A Frame on the Van not jacking the vehicle Neutral

When unhitching I unclamp the jockey wheel tube and drop it till the wheel is about 10cm from the ground, and then start winding the wheel down. This gives a bit of leeway when hitching up later, after the car has settled down.
