Hi, can someone with a manual tell me if it releases the same way as a auto?
Can you just put it in to gear releases the clutch & the brake will release it's self! D5 HSE Waitona Grey 2015

Nope, you have to release it manually. It comes on automatically when you turn the engine off. The End

Slimer,  my handbrake only comes on when you remove the key from the ignition, i found this out when the car tried to pin me to a wall one day!!!  with the engine off, but the key in the ignition. is this correct or is it another visit to the dealer. DB

Mr Barnes, you are correct, I believe, the handbrake does indeed come on when you remove the key.

Correct - by design. It works the opposite way round to the automatic.
Should you, for some reason, not want the handbrake to come on, you have to hold the switch down whilst removing the key. Then the handbrake stays off, regardless.

Err yeah, sorry, turn engine off and remove the key  don't want anyone getting a 'crash diet', though I park on a slope so I always apply the park break then ease slowly off the foot brake with the engine still running so the brakes are still power assisted just in case the park break decides not to do it's job. Think the park brake is the one that stops premature wheelchair use... park break is the one that encourages it

Turning the ignition off will also activate the park brake. You don't need to remover the key for this to happen.
Does on mine anyway.
