Side Steps fitting
Hi Guys
Im fitting the side steps to my LR3 tomorrow, I know how to do it, But i wanted to ask if i should place some sort of sealant between the brackets supplied to me and the body of the car , some thin foam or some grease or just bolt them straight on and get on with it ?

know i'm a newbie
but would there ever be any risk of it retaining water in any way
know what u mean , but if for example u put a sealant round a bracket underneath the disco would or could it retain any water causing rust issues
would something like a coat of hammerite be of any use where it can't be seen between the body and bracket be of any use
like i said i'm a newbie but just generally thinking about it

I have fitted a few sets of side steps to my previous Disco's and have only ever painted the fixing brackets with Hammerite before fitting them to the car. Never had any issues any rust on the car, just put a bit of copper grease on the bolts as I fit them.
Over the years it has become obvious that the brackets and their fittings are good and last whereas the actual step goes to dust. If you want to worry about something go for the water between the tread plate and the metal step, and the shot blasting effect of salt and grit removing paint from the underside of the metal.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. Better still,
Go for the Bearmach tube steps, I've had mine on 3 years now and the only problem I had was breaking one of th bolts due to being a bit heavy handed but advanced factors stock them now.

do they have like a rubber cover over them to prevent u from slipping in the wet please

These look great
Do they fit D4 and have I seen these bevore in chrome ?

There are 2 rubber pads, 1 at each door that are non slip.
If my 90 year old mil can use them anyone can
Look up Bearmach side tubes.
Iirc the chrome ones are just that, straight chrome tubes with no rubber pads.
If you zoom in on the picture you can see the rear one, you'll get the idea

You could do what I did before fitting mine. I gave all the metal work 2 coats of stone chip and made sure the bodywork at the mounting points was clean and also had a couple of coats of stone chip. On the steps themselves I think it is vital as they are known to rust quite quickly.

I would spray a clear wax over the back of the tubes/attachment points and on the car with the cavity wax they spray inside car frames for rustproofing. Here's a link of the stuff I'm referring to. https://www.waxoyl-usa.com/products/corrosion-protection.html
I just recently got a pair of tree sliders and that's what I'm going to do before I install the sliders. I plan on coating the inside of the sliders and the outside of the LR3 where they mount up to.Narpy's Grill Mod, Suspension Rods, Ultra guage, wrangler Goodyear duratracs 265/60/18, new thermostat, diff oils changed, brake switch new, aluminum rack floor, LED driving lights in foglights, rear camera, just need gvif unit, next on list! New front arb bushings, new front valve block, 191,000 miles.
