Front windscreen wiper motor replacement |
|
Disco 3, 05 plate, diesel, colour black
Struggled to find any info on how to do this here and on Google.
My front windscreen wipers alternate between being very slow and just not working. I've ordered a second hand unit off eBay and wondered how hard it was to replace? Surely it's just some screws, a couple of nuts and some power cables, after getting access to it?
Can anyone link me to a video or workshop manual etc?
Thanks in advance.

Not too bad,
The hardest part was removing the wiper arms, a proper puller is available, but i used an old, small G clamp. You will almost defiantly need something along those lines. Penetrating oil beforehand might help.
Then remove A post finishers, get new clips to avoid water ingress.
Remove large panel below wind screen, then, from memory, 3 bolts on motor and 2 on the mech', then harness connector.
Andi.

There are 2 small relays next to the battery for the wipers.

Might be worth checking the mechanical linkages etc for excessive friction also, before condemning the motor. Might just need a clean up and lube of the pivot points. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Yes, you'll need a puller for the wiper arms. £10 from ebay. Don't even start the job without one.
Top Tip: Stick masking tape to the windscreen to represent where the wiper blades sit whilst at rest. This will show you where to position the wipers once you refit the arms and save you loads of hassle and guesswork. Mods:

Relays?
The wipers either don't work, work slowly then speed up or work fine depending on what sort of mood they are in!

I've bought a motor complete with linkage and will be swapping the whole lot out.

I feel proud of myself. I thought about the masking tape idea when I read that post.
One day, when I grow up, I'll be a mechanic.
