Speaking of composite, I'm pretty sure the tailgate/autoscalp is made out of composite materials to reduce weight.16 D4 Landmark

I think the "heavy" alloys are to make the D5 stiffer than the D4 for off roading.Peter

Don't know which alloys they use, but adding calcium reduces / stops it combusingSill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

It is not just magnesium that does that. In the Falklands they discovered that the brand new super duper lightweight aluminum superstructures on the latest warships just melted and burnt when they were hit by incendiaries.
Later, as a consequence of the investigations into the melting aluminum, the wonderful new Lloyds building in London had to have all its swanky new aluminum framed windows replaced by steel frames because in a major fire all the aluminum frames would melt, all the glass would fall out causing the whole building to rapidly burn down..

Is this the same "heavy" alloy that they use in the Defenders as well as FFRR, RRS2 & D5 ?Peter

I think the reason PORSCHE use some composite body shell parts is mainly because they couldn't get the older engines to conform to stringent emmisions regs "See VW emmisions scandal" so they ditched galvanised steel panels in favour of plastic. Because Steel is heavy where by aluminium in comparison is relatively light.

I have a friend in the factory at Solihull. Apparently a lot of D5's aren't leaving the lines after a big problem has been identified with the shell. He is saying that the new shell is flexing too much when towing, causing some instability. Im not sure of the full details but he also said its something to do with the new chassis being a monocoque instead of a great big lump of iron!

Is this affecting the FFRR & RRS 2
As the all share the same shell?

Yes they do, I think they are carbon fibre? We had a tracker in one that couldn't see out from the inside of the car so we fead the receiver thro the bulkhead and placed it under a wing, it couldn't get thro that either. The glass is coated inside and out so the Signal couldn't get in or out,?
Presumably they are carbon because they are so big.
And as for the Flex ? I can't see that at all....... as said above the FFRR & RRS both tow particularly well.
I said before either in this post or another that we specced an work SVR with a solid roof, we were told it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference in weight or rigidity. It appears it's more rigid with a solid roof. And one of the LR drivers confirmed this after eating his hat !Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Correct!
Fl2 was a monocoque and DS also, no flex from them, granted they don't tow as much.
I think one thing that might cause problems will be the tailgate struts.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The key to designing these modern one piece things is in the engineering and design of the structure, you need to carefully place braces, lips and reinforcing for the particular shape to counter or allow flex. So even if FFRR and RRS is on the same line they will be different as the body structure is different.
They can fix it though MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Surely it should be all D5s? They're all built the same so if one flexes they all will flex.
