I think so. One option for me is to keep my MY16 D4 "long term", if I do then it might allow access to cities where diesels below EU6 spec are banned. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It's tricky, I don't much like the D5 and it would be much more of a compromise than the D4.
The big question for me is will I even fit comfortably in the D5. Until I try one, any thoughts on the D5 are academic.
I'm still favouring the option of keeping the D4 and buying an old barge to smoke around in and keep the mileage down on the D4. I'll then see what the new Defender is like and maybe they'll be another marque that will fill the gap.
A real pain, albeit a very "First World" one, as the D3 & to a slightly lesser extent the D4, pretty much perfectly suit my needs in just one vehicle. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

LT, to your point, I could get a later D4 but it doesn't get me any more than my old bus other than a Euro V or VI engine.
I'm now of a mind to keep it until the Defender comes out or see what new hybrids etc will be launched in the next few years. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)

05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres

Having test drove a RRS I think that the level of comfort in the D5 is better although I'm aware that's not what people necessarily want.
Better off road ability & generally more up to date bits do impress me i.e. In an accident (god forbid) it automatically calls help. The driving aids I like, again personal.
Regarding you LT the seat has 16 way movement against my (D4 13) 8 movement but regarding height cannot comment. Peter

I'm 6'5" and played with the position a lot in the D5. You can get it just about there i was still looking out of the top 4 inch of the windscreen like in the D4 but could see the Dash Binacal which i can't in the D4 i have to rely on the digital read out for speed unless i bob down. The D5 arm position wasn't as comfy as you sit lower down so resting my elbow on the window like i do now was not as natural and the armrests didn't seem much use at all.
Was all done in a stationary position of course so not a real world test until you can drive it but pro's and cons for each model i would say MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Having sold my 06 D3 owned from new to buy a new 65 plate D4 I would say you'll be massively surprised at how different the 2 are. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Good call on the HUD but i would advise anyone who is tall test it first as BMW and VOLVO HUDS do not work for me i can't see them and have to bob down like with the dash binnacle. I thought the Volvo XC90 didn't have it until i bent down to adjust the seat and caught it You can adjust them but I've found even with them in their lowest position i still have to look down Hears hoping the D5 one works for tall people MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

The HUD on D5 can be repositioned within certain limitations so I'm unable to say how acceptable for tall people Peter

Apologies if this was posted before: “I don’t think you have to be visually, overtly, tough-looking to actually be tough,” McGovern said. “And if I’m honest, I think we actually want to create a family of Discoverys that are sexy. Everybody wants to be sexy.”

That article is quite descriptive, and whilst I can see where McGovern is coming from he has also been very clever in what he has not said whilst suggesting there is yet more to come in the form of DEFENDER.
I can see that vehicle being more a D3 / 4 than the current D5 will be. I think we the Disco brigade will love it but the boys and girls over on the Defender forum are going to have a right old chunter when it gets released.
There's more to come between the Evoke and RRS, they're working on the next gen FFRR & RRS so does that mean the D5 will remain on this chassis for the next 10 - 12 years. Some one some where knows the answers to these questions but we the end user and funder of all things shiny will have to wait.
And as I said before, the D5 for me is an affordable Range Rover I've done my time trecking across different continents with things hanging of Vehicles that go boom and bang, I've knocked about from pillar to post and occasionally fallen out of them, I don't really want rugged I want comfy and cosy and above all Safe. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

According to CAR magazine the V6 Diesel Disco 5 is ONLY 285 kg lighter, bit like Jag with all their HEAVY ALLOY stuff too then, some of the panels on my Boxster GTS are composite, this is way to go
