Wrong.
There's a program/user interface that can be installed on your pc/laptop to control the IID tool by cable as I do.
Also, make sure it's a 6405 model to be compatible with a D3.
Update: Mmmmm, it's a 6403, check with Gap for compatibility with a D3 before clicking BIN. Mods:

Yeah, pretty much, not aware of any shortfalls.
Gap don't seem to support the earlier version quite as quickly as the BT version, but as far as I know, it'll do everything the BT version can. I've done all updates and fault reading with mine that the BT version can do.
Do check it's compatibility before buying though. As far as I recall, you need a 6405 model for D3. Mods:

The IID Classic is a bit limited compared to the BT due to memory limitations and, of course, the constraints of the dash display. Routine functions such as graphing outputs to find glitches or A vs B comparisons or viewing cause and effect are just not possible without the BT app.

Sorry I can't, I've checked the GAP website and cannot find where I downloaded the interface from although it is mentioned. Start here, it might help: https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/
