P0336 Crankshaft sensor fault code

Pulled the faults off the D3 this morning. Most were fairly routine but got this as a new fault:

P0336-00 (2C) Crankshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance

There's not that many threads with this code in it, and they tend to be along the lines of "I've got this code and what does it mean?", then the thread dies.

Car drives fine, not throwing any hissy fit or going into limp mode. Is this something to worry about? If it is it looks a fairly PITA (hence expensive) job to get done. Sad

Is this not part of a recall by LR?
Symptoms usually start with stuttering whilst driving or shutting down completely.
I think a few on here have had it done under recall or when vehicle has broken down.
If my (bad) memory serves me right it was changing the crank trigger ring and sensor however a modified sensor only now being replaced.

Get out clause: Allegedly or Of course i could be mistaken Mr. Green

I think that's on the 3.0 lump, and a limited VIN range for them. Thumbs Up

Another bump for this.

P0336-00 (2C) Crankshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance

Not had it again, been using D4 most of the time, but looking to do 5,500 mile road trip in July and don't know what the implications of this are.

There was a recall/Service action early in the D3's life, whereby the crank sensor and trigger wheel were replaced

'Twas a while back now, so I can't remember the specifics, other than replacement of said parts... Embarassed

Will get searching.

Assuming I need to replace/sort this (do not want to risk her not starting in the true ar$e end of nowhere), big/expensive job? One to add to the list for the old girl visiting your establishment in May?

Sad

Might not worry about it til it's a bit more than an occasional code. Will have AA cover for the Finland jolly, that'll get me a car to continue with and just get the D3 shipped back. Wonder what the cost of getting a D3 transportered from the very top of Finland/Norway to Dundee is, prob more than the car is worth? Laughing Laughing

Just been out to have a little play with the IID to see if I could understand when this P0336 code cuts in. What I did notice is when I plug in the IID with the car running it sometimes has a bit of a hissyfit and that code is there, like this morning. Lots of warning lights and faults need to be cleared and the car go to sleep (clock off in infotainment) to get back to normal.

But once cleared, no matter what I did I couldn't get it back. Gentle driving, full throttle, starting up, and anything else I could think of. Fingers crossed this is just an artifact of the occasional hissyfit when the IID is plugged in with the engine running. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
