I get so worked up in the motorhome seeing caravan drivers overtaking me and I have car speed limits!

The worse group are vw transporter drivers though

Well if most motor-home drivers realised that and took advantage of it then I wouldn't have to overtake them.

I would say it depends on motorhomes weights, but even at worse they are only limited to the same speed as a caravan, so you probably shouldnt be over taking them.

We dont hang about, often car owners are surprised when we overtake them (legally within the speed limit...but this pales into insignificance in europe where they, in motorhomes hoon past far faster than me.

All though even at 10mph below, i wold still be set up and in the pub or watching sky faster than a caravan...although i suppose thats why they need to make up time on the road home Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

VW transporters... where to start - just because they are in the flower power VW brigade, sharing the "Vdub" hippy life style doesnt mean they are immortal, the worst set of towing speeding ive seen has been is VW transporter drivers - one from north wales recently, i had cruise on at 69, he over took me so fast his van was bouncing - that same trip 2 more and its really common, we certainly see it all the time, races with other caravans etc - speed limit for towing on a dual is 60 and applies to VW's too

Only pass those that are poodling along well below the caravan limit (which a lot seem to) when its safe to do so.

Actually you would be quite surprised at how quick a well drilled couple can set up a van, OH and I can arrive on site and be all set up and kettle on in under 15 minutes while I am unhitching and levelling, she is on the electric, water and waste, in fact wife and I were away a few weeks ago and were travelling from one site to another starting packing up at 15:15, 55 minute drive, kettle on at 16:45

Our local AGA engineer has one and lives in a village we pass though on the way to work and last week as we passed through he was just starting to load his van and given the amount of gear he carries probably takes him a good 10 minutes to load up, yet despite OH doing a shade over the speed limit, he made that 10 minutes up in 23 miles and passed Oh on the Felinheli bypass as something approaching 80!

The VW campers are seen as trendy and attract a suitable price tag

Sorry however quick you can set up a caravan - the max 2 ramps and a cable and the motorhome is done, water, waste, gas, electric, sky, WIFI, heating - 5 minutes set up (if you really call a few buttons set up) and 10 minutes pack down.

Funny sight was at the campsite to catch a ferry, the people next to us woke us up packing away their caravan an hour before we got up! we showered, had breakfast and left 3 minutes after them, arrived at the ferry before they did

Not to start the usual caravan, motorhome debate - each to their own i suppose...but even a well oiled machine, the motorhome will always win at set up. The next one we get will have the automatic level

I am not going to lose any sleep over 10 minutes as we prefer the additional space our van gives, plus you still have to fill your tanks at some point and seeing how long it takes my mum and my sister with their m/hs to fill it it reduces that 10 mins difference somewhat Razz

As it happens ours does have an on-board water tank and is getting an on-board waste tank in the spring (along with 200watt solar panels and additional batteries) as we plan more off grid camping next year, so that will takes us down to unhitch, level and electric

Auto levelling is available as option on some vans nowadays and as an after market option.

As you say each to their own.
