Warranty Direct - Any Competitors?

So with purchase agreed on my D3 XS I wanted to get a good warranty in place for peace of mind - warranty direct came up a few times so I did an online quote which was rapidly followed up with a phone call.

Basically on my 116k D3 they have offered product which covers engine, gearbox and transmission, £50 excess, 50% of parts cost to be paid by me, 13 months cover and up to value of the vehicle in claims in any one year - £477.

I thought cost was very good and they told me they over fair wear and tear which most don't and then he launched into a spiel which basically said that everyone else was con artists and would do anything to get out of a claim??

Anyhow I am now wondering if this is just the 'hard sell' or genuine as I was looking at Warranty Wise and he fired up their website and read me out some text from their T&C's which pretty much confirmed they DONT cover fair wear and tear.

I don't want to get drawn in by sales patter but not once in 39 cars have I ever had a warranty so it's sort of untested ground.

Any advice?

Si

I think WD are the most popular on here. Just be careful with the betterment clause and if you can pay to get it removed.

Yep, haggle in no betterment. Well worth it. Betterment is where they deem you get an increase in value coz of new parts. Good if you can loose it. Thumbs Up

Need to get on that then, waiting for paperwork so once it arrives I will call them. So what does it result in - they want money back or something because they have made your car 'better' is that how it works??

No, just means in the case of a £1,000 valid claim of which £500 is parts they pay £950 (£50 excess), not £700 which it would be with betterment in place. Thumbs Up

Big difference is WW don't cover wear & tear, WD do.

I used warranty wise and still ended up paying for a replacement engine and injectors!

On a car that old, I would just go for the AA breakdown cover, gives you £500 a claim which will break in the back of most claims, engine aside and costs relatively little.

Do you really think if your gearbox goes they won't claim fair wear and tear if it is anywhere near 100k miles

WD put a new TC in my D3 last Jan at ~145k miles. Don't forget there is a wear & tear cover exclusion for the first 90 days of the policy.

I my experience WW have rejected claims which should have been paid, making up all sorts of excuses. Sorry that's not a mechanical part etc etc.

Warranty Direct have been very fair in their claims & I would recommend them.

Best to haggle & get the betterment removed. (i.e. no contribution to parts by yourself).

I think they have an upper mileage limit of wear claims, but you'd best check that out.

regards
Steve

No upper limit I'm aware of, if the item is covered and the car is covered (not exceeded annual mileage limit, got service invoice within interval and MOT). My TC being a case in point at ~145k. Thumbs Up

Warranty wise do cover wear and tear I've had 2 claims to a value of £4300 paid both authorised within hours of sending the claim in, like any aftermarket warranty you don't know the worth of it until you claim

Dave T has a good point. I'd go with the AA warranty.

WD have already capped their liability - to the value of the car. You will find this is a lot less than you think.

Although most on this thread think WD fair, I can remember another thread where some peps wernt so happy. Whistle
