Can't help but smile Graeme,

Sounds like a bargain too, but alas no Forum discount unless you can get the distributors to say yes to giving anyone who mentions DISCO3.CO.UK member discount.
Worth a try. Wink

I'll have a set of adjustables for sale soon!

Forum member discounts and forum contributions are on my list to be discussed, perhaps with the distributor advertising here and on a particular OZ forum. However there was a hiccup with the 06 RRS when left parked for a while where it ended-up on the bump-stops so its not all systems go just yet. I have provided a replacement module with tweaked software that speeds startup by 80 ms in case its not waking-up soon enough after the sensors are powered-up. The new module was to be installed late today so hopefully I'll know the results early next week. If it still occurs then some proper investigation will be required. Diagnostics are available at the site to check for vehicle faults. No hiccups of any sort have occurred with my D4, and it installed and worked properly in the RRS whilst I was there, so hopefully is caused by something else (perhaps a semi-faulty sensor) or is easily fixed.

Graeme

Sounds like the perfect solution. Just let us know when they are ready to go as his will fix the only real problem I have ever had with my D4 and previous D3.

Cheers

I certainly will, Horto.
The system was initially working in the RRS but has developed a major fault and is being returned to me. I'll know more soon. The RRS behaves properly with my loom installed and fitted with my supplied loop-back plug so no issues with that component.

So has the testing on the D4 been fine?

The D4 has always been fine.

Just guessing until I get the unit back but from the symptoms there's a possibility that the ICs have been blown-up by the supply voltage being too high. If so then I'll fit a voltage regulator to prevent any future problems. The supply is nominally 5V and the ICs can withstand 5.5V but any more will cook them. I had allowed for a voltage regulator in case it had to run from a 12V supply but didn't fit one for the 5V supply. However it might be something else but nothing comes to mind from the reported symptoms. I'll plug the module into my test jig to see what's gone wrong.

Great work Graeme!! I've been quietly watching the progress and have been quite impressed. It's genuinely nice to see options other than another rod-mod design. Well done Sir Thumbs Up

Thanks Davyb for the encouragement.

My unit wasn't blown-up but appears from hooking it to my test jig to have been setup with no height adjustment which explains why it doesn't change heights. It will be about 10 days before I can get to have a poke around the RRS with my multimeter to check it out properly but will start building the 1st batch anyway.

Graeme, your a genius, I've loved reading this thread, its amazing to see how your commitment to this project has resulted in something that is so professionally done.

I'd love to get one for my new D4 when it arrives in a month or two

Thanks Dannog. I'm keen to get it going ASAP but without bugs.

I learnt last night after another short subscription to GTR that the early RRS has a 2nd canbus (can-out to another device) in 1 of the looms where no wires exist in the later D3s or D4s. I had the loom made fully populated just in case but the wires weren't twisted so that may have been the cause of the RRS problem. I'll know when I get access to the RRS to refit the modified loom and check supply voltages and fault logs. Meanwhile the loom order has been temporarily halted which means the kits wont be available for at least 6 weeks as I don't want different kits for different models if at all possible.

Well, the lack of twist in the 2nd canbus wires doesn't seem to have been the problem with the 06 RRS. I'll find out Wednesday what the culprit really is but I'm expecting that my module has too much initialisation delay for the early model sensor/ecu setup where I suspect the sensors are indeed simple potientiometers (as LR docs show for the early L322) not requiring the ecu to pause a few milliseconds at start-up. I have a few tricks up my sleeve if that's the case but the sledge-hammer approach of powering from the permanent 12v supply to the suspension ecu might be required, causing a small constant 10mA current draw. The D4 still behaves with permanent power to the module and also behaves with the other software and circuit changes attempting to get a quicker initialisation. Wednesday evening its going to be demo'd to a RR club so I'll be doing my best to have it totally sorted beforehand, but my D4 will be there too so perhaps not too bad if its still not quite ready.

After thinking I had the RRS problem overcome, I hadn't. It was failing to initialise in time and then failed again after several successful attempts with modified s/w. The module will now be permanently powered from the suspension ecu's main 12 supply. Loom production will now proceed and a 5V regulator will be fitted to the modules.

At the request of the RRS owner, a 3rd configuration option has been added. The options are now +30mm/+50mm, -20mm/+50mm, -20mm/+30mm. The -20/+30 option is the one for which I would have regular use and change to +30/+50 for outback trips.

The good news is that the RRS owner has reported faultless operation since the last update. He is quite impressed with the improved handling when lowered 20mm, something I have particularly noticed with my D4 fitted with D3 ARBs. The bad news is that I don't have a loom availability date yet.

Great news Graeme, glad you managed to fix that bug.
Sounds like an easy fix and not too many hours pondering what was wrong.

I'm looking forward to not having to swap rods over, starting to be a real pain!
I tore a split to the hole of one of the standard rods ends, easy and cheap enough to get a replacement.

Thanks for keeping us in the know of what is happening.
Rich.
