Forum Censorship

I appreciate why it's sometimes required however I've had two recent threads deleted with no warning.

Im a reasonably law abiding citizen so it's a tad confusing hunting for your thread and not finding it.

Surely once the delete has been done the offender should be advised of his crime and possibly the reason for the deletion if it's not obvious.

I think one went as it became a bit controversial ...the other wasn't your thread but went because it compromised the selling rules. Wasn't aware if you were informed or not....but censorship is a harsh word if measures are applied because of known rules.

The thread removed last night was a Wanted thread which broke the forum rule on firearms. I have PMd both parties this morning with an explanation.

The thread before that was an off-topic thread regarding refugees which was quickly degenerating into an argument.

Not censorship but an application of the forum's stated rules regarding what the site can be used to sell, and the policy regarding arguing.

If I may ask, the "firearms" limitation is based on UK laws or it's a policy decision?

Simply forum policy, as I don't believe I can be expected to be an expert in what is ok or not to sell, what paperwork/licences/procedures and so on are required.

Thank you. Fair enough.

As firearm owners we're constantly hunted after by politicians, activists, ...
I've spent last year involved in fighting against EC who basically says I'm a wannabe terrorist just because I own firearms (and I'm just sport shooter and I value safety of my kids) and I developed a habit of not being a member of sites/clubs/... with antigun policies.
But checking the rules and reading your explanation, it's only about selling, which is all fine and reasonable.
So I can stay Laughing

Can't understand anyone that shoots for pleasure.

I will only fire weapons if paid to do so.

Discussing the sale of guns and munitions is safe ground. The site is breaching no laws in that respect.

As a website owner and former webmaster and moderator of some very very large website forums, this is one of the best, most lightly "managed" websites I have ever used. It's actually a testament to the quality and the average age of the user base.

The moderators also appear well chosen.

Long may the quality of the site continue.

As to free speech; everyone has the right to free speech and as such, everyone has the right to create their own forum and say whatever they want when every they want about whom they want. But if you want to post here you have to follow the rules (whatever they are) in much the same way if you come round my house for a BBQ, you'd have to act in a certain way.

Martin's PM explained things fully.

I don't tend to sell stuff on here so probably not au fait with the rules - my mistake.

DG's post was fine until the wee barb at the end re 'censorship' Rolling with laughter he can't help it..... Whistle

As many others say this is one of the best run Forums on t'internet and Moderating is not an easy job.

I see some posts which I think are inappropriate but leave it to 'others' to censor/delete/moderate, if I don't like it I don't follow it.

Keep up the good work folks Thumbs Up
