Unusual sound from engine possibly steering related ?

Hi all

Back again for your expert advise and opinions please...

Last few weeks I've notice a strange noise that although isn't that loud it is noticble coming from the engine area, here's the strange bit - when I'm driving straight and I've got just that little bit of pressure on the steering wheel to bank right is when it starts, but if I gently move the steering wheel to the left it stops, it's not related to the throttle as accelerator pedal makes no difference with noise but steering wheel does. I'm wondering if power steering motor maybe ???

Any thoughts

Wheel bearing would be first thing I would check.

Can I check that myself (bearing in mind complete novice here) I'm assuming if I jack the car up and spin each wheel I will hear a grinding notice from the culprit wheel ???

you need to feel for play in bearing. With wheel off ground place hands at 12 and 6 o'clock and rock back and forwards. You are looking for any play. But even this may not show up a failing battery. If you are not intending to do the work, take it to an Indy and ask them to check.
