I've seen it, touched it and sat in it.
I will keep this simple.
Lovely driving position.
Infotainment interface is fast and sexy.
2nd row seats base to floor seems low, ie knees in the air.
I didnt sit in the 3rd row.
Roof seems/feels low sat in the second row.
When you look back from the drivers seat the rear space seems/feels small.
Second row seat base does not rotate forward as current model.
To get into 3rd row is not as easy as D3/4 see above.
The seats do fold flat but this is a two stage operation on the vehicles I played with, first press of button drops the sat back onto the seat base, a second press forces the seat back down to the flat position. When I asked why? I was told that position 1 is ok for the leather, however position 2 is not so good as it may damage the seats
Tail Gate is a faf and one would get bored waiting for the seat/shelf thing to lower. I also noted that the tail gate does not lift that high and the corners of the tailgate are very sharp and will cause head injuries. Tall people will suffer.
Its stunning in the flesh.
On the factory tour the D5 is being built along side the FFRR and RRS with the same ally sub-frames etc so basically the D5 is a FFRR/RRS with a different body.
The D5 now has all the gizmos that the FFRR had a few years ago.
All in all I'm a little disappointed that the D5 is no longer a special unique vehicle its just a FFRR/RRS wearing a Discovery badge

At least my spec doesn't have the electric seat fold. Did all cars you try have electric seat fold?

Good report, thanks Andrew. Despite liking the techie bits on offer, going by the prices I can't see myself buying another "new" Discovery, the new techie bits simply don't warrant the hike in price for me. I'm just praying my 2010 holds out another 3-4 years and that by then the Defender replacement will be available and priced more sensibly.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I've just been reading the Land Rover book of words on what represents fair wear and tear at the end of a PCP contract and they are very particular about damage to seats and upholstery. Where do we stand if chargeable damage is unavoidable as a result of entirely reasonable use of the car? If someone like the Chinese, or the Russians, had come up with a design so totally unfit for purpose, we'd be ripping into it mercilessly! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Ive seen the dimensions but what was your take on the boot space as a whole? My dealers saying I will hardly notice the difference. Im on the ragged edge of the D4's capacity with my dogs and kids so boot space and the middle second row seat will make or break it for me.
I think it looks stunning from the videos and know I will be swooned by it when I see it but i have to keep my practical head on

Looks as though there will be lots to like about the New Discovery and there will definitely be a market for it - even if it's a different demographic to the current market.
I might be 12 years behind the curve in terms of design but I'm very happy with my shiny new 16 plate D4. I've always wanted a Land Rover. The D4 is a bit bigger than we need and more capable than we'll probably ever touch on but I couldn't help myself. And the price was sort of right on the Graphite. Would have to pay more to get my desirables on a Discovery 5 and for my needs I couldn't justify that cost differential.
I don't think it will be a Discovery 5 we'll be looking at next time we replace one of our cars. But like you we're hoping that perhaps the new Defender will tick the boxes at the right price.

Have to say that the two German cars I had on PCP didn't come with such detail about reasonable wear and tear at the end of the PCP period. Both were in excellent condition when part-exchanged before the end of the PCP with no issues - wonder what the view would have been if I'd handed them back though.
Like you - I can't believe there is two stage solution to avoid creasing the leather on the seats unnecessarily. Hardly fit for purpose when they're trying to sell the optional extra of an app to fold seats electronically.
Hadn't really considered in detail the seat operation in the D4 before we bought her. We were amazed by the neat engineering solution to have 7 seats and then fold five away to get a flat load bay demonstrated on handover.
