Front Wheel Bearing
My front offside wheel bearing sounds like it's on its way out.
I see that you only appear to be able to buy the whole hub assembly and bearing together. Can anyone advise whether it is possible to just change the bearing. I have a well equipped workshop including a 20 tonne press. If it is feasible, what bearing is it so I can buy a quality item?
Assuming I buy the hub assembly with bearing, any advise on which one to go for? Plenty of very cheap options on flea bay but is the one from say, Bearmach at twice the price really better?
Cheers, Pete

Don't waste time with the bearing swap, get a genuine Timken, cheap eBay ones are exactly that and won't last!

A timken bearing is right above £100. Really not much to fuzz over

No, front hubs are non-serviceable. Pre-set in the factory.
Make sure you buy Timken, or you'll be doing it again in a year!Richard

Hi, you can change just the bearing. I did mine 3 yrs ago. Prices of complete hub come close to the actual bearing set. When I do it again, think I would just buy the complete hubs. Not that much involved in getting the old bearing out ,apart from having a big press circlip pliers and suitable dollies.

Thanks guys. I think I will get hub out and then see what my options are. I have press and large circling pliers, on the other hand .......!

I'm fascinated to see one of these front hubs with a circlip.
I'm pretty sure the ones on my car dont have any way of opening the hub up to get to the bearings. Richard

You are right, I stand corrected. I definitely did the rear bearings with press and cir-clip. SKF bearings were used.

I meant circlip, don't you just love autocorrect. ......
It looks like I will just buy replacement hubs, although I will investigate the old hub to see if I can press the bearing out.
