Disco 3 2.7 2007 fuel consumption
two months ago I had new timing belts front and rear done
since My fuel consumption has gone from 31.1 regular reading, down to 26. then fluctuates up to 29
any guys know what is occurring . The mechanic is a good landrover fitter and said the timing was slightly out from when I had it done on 105,000 It has 160'000 on at present

Ah yes, I thought you might be using the old lieometer
Try doing it the old fashioned way and you should see better results taking into account urban/motorway/rural driving. I get a consistent 26ish rural and 31 to 34 on motorway.
The lieometer consistently says 32 to 36 mpg regardless of driving style or environment. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

The dash reads the average mpg based on fuel being used over the miles traveled
When the belts were done the system would have reset to zero miles due to the battery being disconnected.
When you have very few miles recorded even small change in throttle will make a difference to the mpg shown, as you build up thousands of miles it will then make very little difference.
You can also reset the system by pressing and holding the button on the end of the indicator stalk, i like to do this before a long journey as i think you get a more accurate reading.Andrew

31 is pretty impressive, for the last 6 years I have seen,
20mpg short commutes, 5 miles each way
23mpg longer but still short runs, 12/15 miles
25/27 decent running, ie 100 plus miles
This is real mpg, ie whatever the dash says knock off 10 percent and you will not be far out.

Just a shame the petrol ones are like hen's teeth, given the relatively low mpg of the 2.7TD. I'll still convince myself I'm saving money somehow over the old V8 D2
I have been thinking about the improvements a remap could bring and have a simple graph comparing efore and after remap mpg.
If efficiency goes from 25mpg to 30mpg, we get a break-even at 8000 miles (assuming £1.25/l and a £300 remap cost:
I'm sure there are other things to consider - anyone care to comment or put me right?

Hmmmm, I don’t recall anyone getting any meaningful increase in real world mpg after a remap, I certainly didn’t with 2 remapped D3s. A 20% increase in mpg smacks of snake oil, IMHO.
And don’t rely on the trip comp, all it want to do is convince the driver he’s saving da polar bears. Mine typically over read by 2 - 5mpg and average over 166k miles (ie until she spun her bearings and popped her clogs) was 26.something, prob 80% of that sitting at 60mph on long hauls.

interesting reading guys
Looks like I am stuck with what I have
Had landrovers for years and will not change
I am 80 and the one I have is 2007
I have always Ex engineer looked after it
So will not change it
I have had a reading of 31.1 on it for a few years
That is why I found it odd after Belt change for it to drop and cary so much

When I had my remap done they said that there might be an increase in mpg but they didnt guarantee it.
I have never noticed a increase but with the extra BHP I do tend to put my foot down moreAndrew
