gearbox (again)
Had the usual hesitations from the gearbox in the past, which have been checked by dealer and all ok, so driven round them.
However, on recent trip, it seems to have got lot worse.
(i) pulling a trailer - getting onto roundabouts was almost suicidal - the hesitation and pause was of the 'this seems like ages and I wish something would happen..... whoosh' type, and trying not to overcompensate so that when I did go I didn't leave the contents of the trailer behind were a challenge
(ii) low ratio, up steep hills: there were times when I'd sit, foot pressed to the floor, on a step rocky incline, and the car would just sit there, not responding, for a few seconds at least. Of course, it felt longer, but was ages. It didn't matter if I was gentle, vigorous, used some or all of the pedal travel - it was, shall we say, overly reluctant.....
Am booking into the dealers to have them look at it, but am not convinced they will either be able to replicate it - it is somewhat unpredictable - or really investigate it properly. What should I ask them to consider? Should i take in a fully loaded trailer to demonstrate?! It's under approved used warranty - for another few months.....
n.b. they tell me the gearbox software is up to date (well, it was a year ago). Suggestions welcomed.

Sounds like egrs rather than gearbox hesitation.
If they are slow/fail to close, then it will cause exactly the symptoms you describe.Bodsys Brake Bible

ok, so why would this give the hesitation? thought it was only for emissions control? and how can I test out whether they are closing or not? Have an IIDtool if it helps (no error codes there tho)

Sounds like mine, not fault codes, but blanked EGR's anyway, no improvement.
Judder then kicks in 15,000miles later (learnt to live with hesitation), checked by LR, no fault found, checked by Disco Mikey, new TC fitted, all problems solved
A friend has a D4 with used approved LR warranty with judder. LR can't diagnose the fault and are talking about exchanging the vehicle....their idea not his
It seems to me that LR don't actually have a bloody clue how to diagnose a knackered TC these days!!!

hmm blanking ego's on a D4 causes problems I think.
Are there any hints on how to diagnose faulty torque converter? It's taken to rolling back on hills too, so maybe that's TC related?

If not EGR fault codes then they are working fine. You may choose to double check by looking at the live values on the IID, I'd be shocked if they aren't moving as you have no DTC's

The dealer tried to tell me I needed a gearbox 20k ago, when I told them the torque converter was slipping and it's not the gearbox they asked me what made me think it was that and not the box. I asked them the same and they said we find at those miles (100k at the time) that it's always the gearbox
Needless to say the box is fine.
