Good on him a job for life beckons and security that many will be jealous of.

Ask him that the other guys in the shop have? Ive seen a few of the blokes I used to work with use the snap on digi ones lovely until they go wrong!
I very rarely use one but the old click its done type have served me well for years, any quality make will do the job well.

Halfords actually do some nice tools for sensible money.

For work I have Norbar Torque wrenches, at home I use the Halfords advanced range. both about the same price and quality
Im not a big fan of the digital ones.

Remember he will need 2 or 3 wrenches to cover the range of torques needed.

Snap on ones are guaranteed forever, so if you can afford one, don't dismiss it.

Obviously there are different torque ranges, so you might want to ask him some common values he needs to use it for

I'm sure the Halfords Pro ones are Norbar - as far as I recall, the certificate in it referred the owner to Norbar.

SNAP-ON Techangle range are only 1 or 2 year warranty
The traditional mechanical wrenches still (i believe) have lifetime warranty, but only on the handle

Halfords professional also come with a lifetime warranty, but again officially handle only unless get a kind member of staff, or one that doesn't care.

Personally I wouldn't buy a snap on torque wrench, just not worth the money

I know a guy who uses a Snap On Digi one and reckons the difference it makes when doing stuff like heads is amazing. No messing around with angle gauges as they do that too. All adjustments are push button and you can put it straight back in the tool box without doing anything.

They were on special recently but even then they were £400 plus vat

I have a 3/4 Norbar 250nm to 700nm
My 1/2 is halfords pro 60nm-300
My 3/8 is halfords 10nm-60 IIRC

if its just for cars i'd imagine he would be fine with 3/8 & 1/2" Thumbs Up
