Numpty question - What coolant should I use? |
|
Hi
I am probably showing my total ignorance of cars but I don't want to do something stupid!
My 2013 Discover 4 occasionally flashes up 'Low Coolant Level' and after a few seconds this light goes out.
I have just checked and it does appear that the coolant level is a centimetre below the minimum fill level so I obviously need to top it up.
But WHAT do I top it up with?
I am off on holiday Monday morning so need to buy something today/tomorrow at Halfords, I would appreciate any recommendations on what to fill up with, does it matter if it is something slightly different to what Land Rover have filled it with?
Many thanks for the help.

The stuff that's in there is OAT coolant
http://www.coolantexperts.com/coolant_overview/oat_coolant
You can get this from Halfrauds or a dealer...it's not cheap & you don't need much for a top up..
But you may have an issue with the float switch that ha a float problem...it does happen to this breed of Vehicle
Are you still under warranty ?
A search on here may reveal more data... BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Hi
Yes it is still under warranty but there definitely seems to be less coolant in there the should be, so I don't think it is the float issue which I dd see mentioned in some posts I looked at.
I had been looking at OAT on the Halfords web site but did not want to buy it and fill up before checking with the experts!
Many thanks for your response.

You can top OAT coolant up with water. Obviously if you dilute it too much it's not going to be effective but if it only a tad below minimum it should be fine. I believe you are supposed to use de-inonised water but each to his own MY12 D4 HSE Marmaris Teal
MY08 D3 XS Java Black - gone
MY03 D2 ES Zambesi Silver - gone
