EPB another Question

Sorry tried looking for an answer to this one but not sure I got an accurate hit!

I had new EPB shoes/discs etc a few weeks ago .all set correctly per manaul.. all well until tonight.

I parked, didnt apply EPB! when starting up later i drove of but could hear a strange noise.. though first of all it was on radio... but no it was me!!

sounded like brakes on.. and it was!! tried EPB lever but this didnt affect anything

Can't work out why the EPB shoes would of engaged when I didnt apply EPB?

Drove back short distance to home with a lot of stange looks from noise...NOT screaching like most posts! just scraping sound

When home EPB engaged and disengaged as it should??? and the scraping noise disappeared

Any advice greatly appreciated...can the EPB engage without lifting the EPB lever??

Thanks

I think I was in Park?

Are you saying it always engages whether you lift lever or not when taking ley out? or on special circumstances only like you havent put the box in P ?

there was no red EPP light on when I started??

Thanks

It only automatically engages on a manual, not on auto box.

OK that clears that one up Smile So still a quandry why the brakes were on when I didn't set them Confused

I'm assuming they were only slightly on as I was able to drive it home without much issue!

Not quite correct! It depends how it is set in the CCF, mine does apply, but I would have thought you would know by now if it does or not as you can hear it operating after taking the key out. Even if it does the epb should disengage when the accelerator is pressed by 3%. If it does and for some reason you do not want to apply it hold the epb switch down when removing the key. In the meantime keep a check on the brakes overheating.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I'm taking it back to the Garage tomorrow who did the replacement discs and shoes and bedding in cycle.

I'm hoping its a simple fix of one of the shoes slipping or something similar.

I have no warning lights on the dash to say there is an error so again hoping its a shoe issue!.

Are the EPB control units (module) likely to fail after new shoes are fitted on a 12 year old car? I hear small teeth inside the unit can break or the small adjuster nut over tightens.

Really dont want it the be the Module as its worked perfectly up till now Sad

One of the shoe hold down pins could have come loose or snapped. Best get it looked at asap.
