I agree with Robbie and was just about to reply in a similar manner. The aero dynamics of a boat lift the front end and take the weight off the tow bar, 5mph can make a vast difference to the to the weight being put on the tow bar, a caravan with a sloping front works the opposite and applies more weight the faster you travel.
This could also be a good reason to have an Iid tool and lower the suspension slightly for towing as it would help to throw the weight forward. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks again for everybody's input and kind words.
The boat was held on with 5 heavy duty straps (the type wagon drivers use) plus the winch strap and so I don't think the boat moved before the accident.
After all the posts on here I think it was a combination of going a bit to fast (although not exceeding the limit), the trailer not having enough noseweight and the gradient of the motorway which was also on a bend.
I was also wondering about if air suspension is right for towing and was thinking next about a 110 Defender but this will definitely not be as good in an accident as a Disco.

Having just read every single post on this thread, I'm keen to know what the end of the story is.
Do tell....

He's used the insurance payout as the deposit on a PCP for a Fiat 500 or, worse still, a Kia Sorento

Okay...
It's interesting to see that not only has LR lost much of their traditional market to the Japanese pick ups, but it seems to be passing on to the more prestigious stuff too. My neighbour used to have a Range Rover, then a Disco, is now on his third generation of Jap pick up as well. His newest is also an Isuzu.

Re: Will this polish out?
Each to their own but I'd be interested to hear the reasoning behind cashwowud's choice following the opening post
