Disco 4 black wheels what is the OEM coating/finish?

Hi all.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but am rather stressed/angry at the moment!

I recently lightly kerbed one of my black alloys. I have had it "repaired" by a well known mobile paint repair specialist and they have done a terrible job! It's patchy and now covered in a frosty finish.

I have to put this right as it looks rubbish.

Can anyone confirm what the factory finish is ? At a guess I think it may have been gloss black powder coat, but they have refinished it in paint, and the even the colour black doesn't look the same.

Obviously I have complained to the company, and they want another chance to fix the paint - but I have zero confidence in them and wonder if it's a waste of time especailly if it should be powder coated? Crying or Very sad

Please see before and after photos.

Thanks guys,

Ted

hi Ted welcome to the show .
The repair you have had certainly looks substandard . The wheel looks like it should be gloss black . I have just had a wheel powder coated gloss black and it is perfect.
You're not afraid of the dark are you ?

Thanks for the reply Cellerdweller.

I think I am going to get this rim repaired and sell it on. And buy a new one from Land Rover as the truck is just over a year old and I've only owned it for about 2 weeks!!!!! And I know it will bug me that is not original!

Thanks again,

Ted

Have you a full size spare under the car? May as well use that if you have.

Hope you got this sorted mate.

Did we ever answer the question? Are OEM wheels powercoated or 2-pack sprayed, with a clear over?

Powercoat does look good done well, but I would guess OEM finish is sprayed and clearcoat to get that slightly smoother (showroom) finish??? Anyone know ??
