Central Locking - Again!!

Apologies as I have read loads on this problem within the forum, but nothing quite answers this problem that I have.

I did a silly thing and left the courtesy light on in my 05 HSE. One flat battery and no central locking (obviously). Initial panic sets in when the near side passenger entry is stuck solid, but after some WD40 and perseverance it opened - phew!

Charged the battery and it all started up fine. The problem is the remote central locking doesn't work on either key - it works from inside by pressing the unlock button on the dash, just not from the keys. Today I have used the car in places where I wanted to lock it so a quick jog round to the passenger door, press the lock button, and use the manual lock to get back in. Now panic really has set in tonight as the second time I did this the manual lock was really stiff and started spinning around!

Luckily (sort of) I had a feeling and tried the rear passenger door and that opened. Worth noting that when I got the car a couple of weeks ago I had that same problem a couple of times with the rear door that seemed to sort itself out.

I have tried a hard reset - wait for sleep, waited 2mins, positive and negative together for 5mins, but that hasn't helped. It's almost like the car has forgotten the keys somehow - but it still starts? Oh one other thing i noticed is that the red alarm light was flashing but I open the door and no alarm at all, but when I started charging the battery up the alarm did go off until I put the key in - not sure if that's relevant.

Sorry it's a long one, but in my short time of owning this car this forum has proved invaluable with some really good people on here, so I thought as much detail as possible may help.

In short - any ideas anyone? And whilst I can still get in to the car is there anything I can do to the passenger door lock to get it working more reliably in case of future problems.

By the way - owner for 2 weeks, got it for a good price with some known problems (this forum helped me sort those out!) and even with its niggles I love it!!

Ok I've just also read the green/white splice thing - so maybe I didn't read all the posts on this. I will try this in the morning - but it does say due to damp - can't see any signs of damp at all in the passenger side (there was in the driver side though).

Peculiar - just came out to try to do the green splice and guess what? Yep it all works fine, seems like a good nights sleep was all it needed.

I am still panicking a little in case it happens again and so I am left with 2 questions
1. Do I bother checking the green splice (I suppose that's a silly question and I may as well)
2. What can be done if anything to the passenger lock in case it does happen again?

Hi Guys - Any help on getting the mechanical front passenger side lock repaired would be really appreciated.

The electronics on these cars are a minefield but as long as I can get in the car it appears most things can be fixed - at the moment though if the remote locking plays up then i cant get in the car, and as my wife will be using this with our 7 month old daughter I don't really want them stuck somewhere and would rather just get the mechanical lock fixed.

Many thanks

Ukraine

Loads of posts on replacing door latch mechanisms on here. They seem to fail frequently. Roughly £100 each to replace.

You can replace the motors in them, I believe, if you have the time and inclination.

Thanks woolmeister - I wasn't sure if that applies to the manual lock (front passenger). It's the manual part that's stuck, stiff and sometimes spins around without catching the 'cog'.

Hmm tempted to try one of these for a back up plan - the central locking always works from inside the car and appears fairly straight forward to splice it in to the 'door unlock' button on the fascia?
