D3/D4 reliability

Well here goes I've owned my D3 for 6.5 years and the only thing I don't like spending on her is replacing clutches every 3 years, everything thing else is just wear & tear but my question is at 9 years old in October after a new clutch being fitted next week, do I keep her or start looking for a D4 ? I've been reading a few issues about D4s but I did this with the D3 but except for the oil pump casing fault on my year of vehicle which as been done as a precaution she's done me proud & still runs like a dream so at 154000miles plus a 3000mile trip to Italy & back , should I sell or keep enjoying? Many thanks

Is it not a case of better the devil you know?...
You know the history of your D3. You understand what maintenance has been done / is needed. You are paying less and less depreciation as the years go by. You're still enjoying it.

What would a D4 give you that you don't already have...
Higher depreciation. Less knowledge of the vehicle history. Risk of buying someone else's problems. etc etc.

Unless the D3 is causing problems or the D4 gives you something that the D3 can't then why is there a need to change?

124k miles on my clutch after it was replaced under warranty at 17k miles, and still going strong. Thumbs Up

Have you considered that your driving style may be at fault for getting through so many clutches? Whistle

No not at all first clutch pressure plate failed done under warranty the same with the second but out of warranty this 3rd one as done the same & ive been on to customer services the car is mainly used for towing tin hut this clutch did three trips to the south of France through the midi Pyrenees one trip to Spain through the Pyrenees & three trips to lake Garda Italy through Switzerland plus our uk weekends away and the same with the previous clutch, & when I am stuck in traffic at the gothard tunnel I use low range, I've asked LR for the failure report and if no contribution I want the parts back to get tested so let's see what happens Big Cry

Well I cant believe I am doing anything wrong this time I dipped the clutch to change to third gear and the pedal didn't feel right & up went the Rev counter noticed it straight away and continued to tow tin hut to Hereford & back with out the clutch slipping again but the clutch pedal as lost the strength of the pressure plate when depressing, but if I am at fault then so be it but it's the only vehicle I've ever had a clutch go in Big Cry
