Pdc light flashing immediately when turning on ignition

Good morning all
I have been reading many, many of the posts regarding the pdc over the last few days and cannot find a similar issue to mine.
It's a 2006 se manual with rear only sensors. They worked great until about a month ago. I've only now had time to try and look at it.
Tried the test of ignition on, reverse gear, handbrake off etc but cannot hear any clicking or feel any vibration from rear sensors.

What I have that's different to all the posts that I've read so far is that-
1. The light on the pdc switch flashes instantly when I turn the car on, it's as if the initial system test throws up a fault.
2. There is no long tone or any noise at all from the sounder/bleeper thingy when engaging reverse or at any other time.

I don't have a fault code reader so any other testing tips would be most appreciated.

I have read about removing the rear side trim to get at the sounder - is this something that can be tested by connecting to a battery or does it need canbus magic to activate?

Thanks,James

Update.
Decided to take trim out from rear to access pdc sounder to give it a quick shake/ test / bang.
But....can't open the tailgate! Noise from solenoid but no action! Seems like another job to do.
Just going to find the "how to" . Thumbs Up

Sound like the cable end on the actuator has failed.

Where are you in Wales?

Good evening Armalites, I am in Pembrokeshire not far from Fishguard. Have just been reading the failed tailgate opener posts and see that it is indeed probably the cable end failing. Looks like a nice New Year project!

Same problem here, on a 2005 model. But it is to cold outside to take the back trim apart. Please keep posting the progress. Thanks.

Thanks to Disco Mikey's how to guide I managed to open the tailgate yesterday and repair the latch cable with an old Allen key.

Once I'd got that all back together I released the side trim at the top only and managed to get at the pdc sounder.
I took it off and tested with a 12v supply. No sound at all so decided to take it apart. Looked as if water had got in to it.
Anyhow, knackered it when I took the plastic bit off the front so new one on order.
Will report update when new one gets fitted.

One you get to it after fixing tailgate (!) and maybe fault codes read, I've a working but used rear parking sensor loom for sale £20 as I replaced it with new before realising it was a sensor faulty. New one was £50 something plus vat but I'd already put it on so welcome to try the loom more cheaply than I did!

Thanks. I'll try the new sounder thing to see if that works. If not, I'll be in touch. Thumbs Up

Success! New sounder / beeper gets rear pdc working again.

Fitted the new sounder this evening and it's all back working.

So, in summary, if the pdc light is flashing constantly on the switch and there is no beep at all when selecting reverse then a new sounder for twenty pounds of so is worth a go. It worked for me. Hope this is of help to others in the future. Regards James Thumbs Up

There is supposed to be its own diagnostic

The parking aid module has a diagnostic connection via the medium speed CAN to enable faults to be retrieved using T4. Additionally, an on-board diagnostic routine within the parking aid module constantly monitors the system and alerts the driver to a system fault by emitting a tone from the front or rear sounder, depending on the fault.

If a parking aid system fault has occurred, the parking aid module will relay the occurrence of the fault to the driver in the following ways:

The status LED will flash at a frequency of 2Hz if the system is active and fault is detected in the sensors, sounders, related wiring or the module.

The front sounder will emit an error tone for 3 seconds at a frequency of 1500Hz if a fault is detected with the front sensors or the rear sounder develops a fault.

The rear sounder will emit an error tone for 3 seconds at a frequency of 1500Hz if a fault is detected with the rear sensors, the switch, the LED in the switch or if there is a CAN bus error.

If you mean a new one then I got mine from eBay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251630352146

If you mean on the vehicle it's below the rear side window behind the rear boot trim on the left hand side of the car when looking from the rear.
Hope that helps

I managed to get at the sounder without removing fully the plastic trim. It's below a little metal plate just beneath the rear side window. The plastic trim can be pulled away sufficiently at the top once a screw near the rear passenger door and also the boot rubber strip are released.
