Leaking crankshaft front seal after timing belt change

I've spent 8 hours doing the front timing belt plus the oil pump. After just 100 km the crankshaft seal seems to be leaking.

Does anybody have an idea where I could get the LR tool to center the seal and insert it correctly?

How can I take out the current seal? Special tool again I assume.

It is simply frustrating to have done the job and then to discover it is leaking.

Thanks for any hint towards making the re-install successful.

Did you use genuine oil pump or something else?

You dont need a special tool to remove the old seal, just use a small sharp pointed tool or screwdriver and punch it through the old seal and and prise it out.

You have to be very careful when inserting the new seal even with the LR inserting tool as to much of an angle on the lip will cause a leak.
Its basically the same job over again without removing the oil pump.

I am sure the seal was damaged during fitting.

Is there a special technique to prevent the damage? It must be fitted dry as written in the repair manual?

I am going to buy the special tools as mentioned in the workshop manual.

Any idea what these will cost and where to buy?

Hi- Just been told by the garage that my crankshaft front oil seal is leaking 2.7 Diesel 2008 - I was considering buying the Sealey VSE5000A Diesel Engine Setting/Locking Kit - Land Rover, has anybody used the kit and would you recommend it, or can I replace the oil seal without the need for the special tools? Thanks in advance for your replies.

The flywheel locking tool can require some fettling before it will fit the opening above the starter motor. Apart from that it does the job.

Some of the crankshaft oil seals are supplied with installation cones already fitted, this makes installation a lot easier.

This is the exact issue which is putting me off a diy on the oil pump. If it leaks and/or I spank the money on the "special tools" (AF sell these btw) I may as well pay a good indi to do the job in the first place, along with their backup should it leak.
