Air to spring conversion kit

Hi

Have started to have issues on the air suspension and given the individual price of the parts I am considering using the Dunlop air to spring conversion kit. Has anyone had any experiences with this conversion. I know some of the earlier Discovery 3s were fitted with springs but only in 5 seater format. The vehicle is on 140k mileage at present.

My personal opinion having a coiler and an air sprung is stick with the air, they really were designed for air the coils were an after thought to try and sell more at a cheaper rate, they are not the same vehicle in the coiler form. The independent nature of the suspension makes it necessary to have the air.

I drove a D3 with a coil conversion in the USA some years ago.

To be fair, I don't think it was the Dunlop kit, probably an American kit.

It was pretty dire, and I certainly wouldn't want it.

I suggest you drive a converted Disco before committing yourself.

I bought replacement air suspension parts from:-

for my Discovery 2 - they were cheaper than anything available in the UK, and very high quality, but this was 12 or so years ago.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

What issues are you having with the air suspension? It could well be cheaper to fix the air rather than ditch the whole lot and fit a spring kit.

Assuming you have a 7 seater then these were never available from the factory with coils, so there is a type-approval issue, which may affect your insurance.

Also removing the air suspension means that your headlights are no longer self-levelling, so could be an issue at MOT time.

Thanks for that I think I will do some more research and see if I can find somebody who has carried it out before I commit to the swop.
