Amateur Radio Install

Just got my results, passed the test and now waiting for my call sign, so I thought I would ask here is there are any hams here, what mobile radio do you have and how did you fit it in your D3 or D4?

Not put mine in the D3 yet but it was in my FL2 and I will follow the same idea.
Transceiver under the seat, display on the dash and antenna on the back.
This is a D Star IDE880.

You can see my install here...

Loads of room in the nearside cavity in the boot of a D3, probably even more if you dont have rear aircon?

I like that a lot! I need to put a digital radio / vhf unit in for search and rescue but I dont want to have to drill holes through everything as its my every day car.. ( D4 ) plus I dont want it visible as I had my defender broken into for the last radio!

Mounting the transceiver behind the boot panel is not only neat but it also reduces the length of antenna cable as well as increasing the distance from other potential sources of RF noise.

The detachable heads fit neatly on top of the rear view mirror, when means it can be seen without taking eyes off the regular scan.

Found a few pics from my previous install with Yeasu FTM10 and cheap, rugged, multipurpose antenna mount (Panorama antennas) on a bit of ali flat bar.

Been busy so only getting back to this now, I have to get the FT857D Separation Kit, then like suggested, I think behind a panel in the back. It's where to fit the head unit, I still need to make up my mind. Are there any problems bringing the coax in through the tailgate or door seal or would I be better drilling a hole for it?

There was a post on here somewhere from someone who had pics showing how to route it, from memory there are three options:

1. Bring it into the headlining area by running the cable along the roof bar channel, cutting a hole in the rubber loom cover that feeds the top tailgate then sealing it with silicone, bring the cable down behind the D pillar cover and into the rear cubby hole.

2. As above, but bring the cable in through the rear vent on the outside of the D pillar that is exposed when you open the tailgate

3. As above but bring the cable in though the grommet behind the rear lights.
